The Cardinals have claimed infielder Bryan Ramos off waivers from the Orioles, reports Francys Romero of BeisbolFR. There wasn’t any previous indication that Ramos had been designated for assignment but it seems the O’s tried to quietly sneak him through waivers. Their 40-man count will drop to 39. The Cards have had an open 40-man spot since trading Brendan Donovan to the Mariners earlier this week and don’t need to make a corresponding move.
23 years old, .757 OPS over 6 minor league seasons. Seems to have some upside. The more guys like this you collect the more likely some of them hit. No objections here.

He hit .216 with a .309 OBP and a perfectly pedestrian .705 OPS in AAA last year. Upside...
I guess they didn't give up a player to get him and didn't drop anyone from the roster, so not a big deal. I'd drop him in a heartbeat if there was another transaction I wanted to do.

Btw the Cardinals had an open 40 man. This doesn't stop them from doing anything. It was just a strategic move. I was reading he would be a player they would be able to slip through waivers once rosters got full up for most teams. He doesn't have enough service time so if he cleared waivers he would still remain in the organization and not able to be a free agent. So there is no risk here.

He should fit right in.
Like another poster pointed out, and same as Nelson both players are ZERO risk, nothing but upside. If they fail, they fail. If they play halfway decent youre right they fit in perfectly with the rebuild. Also could let Gorman know that they're looking at options.

Are there really that many folks on CT that don’t know how building a baseball team involves so much more than significant 26-man roster moves? Do they really not understand that all 30 teams have a barn full of these signings? Every once in a while, one of these hits.
