Benn looked offsides on GWG

Post by Russdv14 »

With 24.9 on the clock in the upper left frame (somebody post a pic) Jamie Benn is past the blue line with both skates (you can see the white), Heiskanan (# 4)is the puck carrier and not quite to the blue line as Parayko is between # 4 and #18 who is slightly ahead of # 4.
There appears to be no way that Heiskanan got the puck over the blue line while Benn was on the blue line!

Out of all the times not to have somebody on the Blues bench question that play. To be sure of my observation maybe there was a camera on Benn’s side showing #4’s reach and puck location when Benn clearly was in our zone.

For those of you computer savvy, of you can freeze the clip of Benn’s entering our D zone at 24.9 seconds on the clock you will see what I mean. My “file” was too big to post when I stopped video and took a screenshot. One of you certainly can. I even wrote it during the GDT!
The clip is on NHL.com where they show a replay of each goal

After that loss to Nashville I find myself not really caring what they do. If they don't care then why should i?

I hope somebody will be able to post the picture showing the clock at 24.9 seconds. Unless this is an optical illusion the puck carrier had not reached the blue line and Benn’ss skates were definitely over the line I think everyone was too stunned to think about challenging the play.

We did not have to lose again in regulation time

From what Joe V said, the Blues review every single goal, so apparently they saw something we didn’t and decided not to challenge it. Either that, or the refs had already mentally packed their bags. If you watched the game, they were clearly in “let them play, let’s get this over with” mode — whistles swallowed, clocks moving, dinner reservations calling. :D :D :D

League iniates all reviews with under 1 minute to play so the Blues couldn't have challenged it. I wasn't listening to the radio broadcast so not sure if this was mentioned..

A better question would be why were all five Blues on the same side of the ice?

You’re right — there was a lot more going on than just an offside or not. Everyone was stacked on one side of the ice, puck-watching like it was a warm-up drill. Sticks reaching, guys poking at the puck, but nobody stepping up and taking the body.

That’s not structure breaking down — that’s hesitation. Dallas was engaging, finishing checks, separating man from puck. The Blues were reacting, not asserting. You don’t win battles by spectating, and that entire sequence looked like five guys hoping the puck would just come loose on its own.

Yeah he did look offsides but 55 could’ve stood the puck carrier up at the blue line with 2 other blues right there to retrieve the puck.

Ed Neighbours should have put Jakey over his knee and spanked him after the game for not covering Benn

Earlier -are one of you saying that the league definitely reviews every goal scored with a minute to go, or did they say the league must initiate a review 1st. Like Lucy pulling the football from Charlie Brown. I think each of us was too stunned to stop to review the play, but at midnight, I decided to watch the goal again framed by frame and it took a clear pictures just too big to post showing Benn completely over the line. I just think it’s a lousy way to lose.
Of course Heiskanan’s pass was perfection and Benn didn’t do what our shooters normally do…except that glorious shot from Snugggerrud with a similar precise pass by Buchnevich a few days back!

I thought it looked offsides as well Russ. But I hate to admit that I am happy the way it turned out. This team needs an influx of top level talent added and the draft is our best hope for that.

The NHL has felt very staged/rigged this past week. After the clear “game management” by the NHL to give Tampa 3 straight 5 on 3 PPs right after the goalie fights and right after the game went to 5-1 in the outdoor game….resulting in the highest ratings ever for a regular season game, nothing is off the table.

The Blues have appeared to be trying to lose games this past month. With 3 last minute goals against the same team in tie games is completely unheard of. Against any team, forget the same team.

Starting the statistically worst goaltender in the NHL for more games than one of the best goalies is another one.

Good thing the Blues traded their 2nd rounder just to get rid of Hayes. That is basically a late 1st the way this season is playing out

Anyone still holding out hope for this team is missing a chromosome or something. You can't find ways to lose like this if you're trying.

This org is destined for McKenna or the Stenberg Empire. Embrace it and enjoy! :D
