After another summer of training Ive changed my opinion that when October roles around Jiricek may be a viable option to replace Faulk right away esp with a veteran LHD partner
Unless they sign another veteran RHD, Jiricek will be on the opening night roster. We don’t have anybody better at this point.
You're probably right about this, I just hope people aren't expecting Petro, who was good enough in the NHL in his D+3 that they felt comfortable trading Johnson. It will be good if he can take Brantford to the Memorial Cup
Jiricek turns 20 this June. For APs 20 year old season he got the nine game tryout didnt he and was returned? He played in 9 NHL games and was -9. The next season AP played well though. I would expect Jiricek to play in the NHL at 20 yrs old not sure if he makes the team out of camp, promoted at some point time will tell.

'07-'08 Pietrangelo at Niagara 60GP 13 40 53
'25-'26 Jiricek 28GP 13 20 33

You can see Jiricek is going blow away APs best OHL season but comparing the two is not that productive other than they are both RHD.
Pietrangelo played 8/9 games in each of his D+1 and D+2 and was a full time NHL defenseman in D+3 and midway through that year he was clearly going to be a #1 defenseman. Matching Petro would mean starting next putting up 11 goals, 32 assists in 79 games and taking over the D corps. Different play styles on defense. This current year is Jiricek's D+2, he is well behind that schedule.
Its not quite that simple when comparing a Euro kid to a North American draftee. AP played almost 4 years in the OHL, Jiricek has played two years in the OHL and parts of two years with HC Plzen. The useful comparison is what they would do at the same age. Jiricek could have very easily played his 9 game trial in the NHL. So ultimately if you are going to try to compare the two RHD it would be what does Jiricek do at age 21 which is still two years off.
Harry, you literally compared them and I pointed out that Petro was way ahead of Jiricek by this point in their same development. They were. It's ok for that to be true.

I don't know what you are saying about their years but yes Petro had already had 17 NHL games by this same point in development and Jiricek would need to be an obvious #1 defenseman out of the gate starting next year to be the same.
No, next season would be Jiriceks 20 year old campaign, not his 21 year old season which is when AP took off. And as i mentioned "but comparing the two is not that productive other than they are both RHD."

Personally I'd like to see Jiricek play a full season in the AHL next year no matter how strong of a camp he has. Let Mailloux get another season under his belt and let the team establish who the 3LD will be that plays with Jiricek. Maybe he gets a call up during the year.

Petro was drafted in 2008. He played 8 games in 08-09 and 9 games in 09-10. Then in 10-11 he was full time.

Jiricek was drafted in 2024. He had an injury riddled 24-25 and is now playing well in junior in 25-26.

26-27 is the precise comparable Jiricek season to Petro's 10-11. I am correct in what I am saying.

Hmm, thats next season. I dont expect a 20 year old Jiricek to do something a 21 year old Alex Pietrangelo did.

He needs to play where ever is appropriate. If hes great in training camp then play him in the NHL. I can see a call up being logical next season

I think hes closer to 200? Hes no longer 180--wasnt that his draft weight?
No reason to compare him to AP--not that good.

But he will be decent imo.

His draft weight was 160-167. No way he’s 200

Seattle, you are 100% correct about the post-draft year sequence with both Petro and Jiricek. I think what Harry is trying to say is that while that might be true, Petro played 2/3 of his D+3 year at 21 years old (Jan birthday), while Jiricek will play all of next season at 20 (June birthday).

Along with Petro getting NHL trials in his first 2 post-draft years, Petro was further along by the start of his D+3 year in terms of experience and age. So the better comparison might be to see how Jiricek's D+4 season aligns with Petro's D+3 year.

Either way, I think we can all agree that if Jiricek establishes himself as a near sure thing top-pair defender by the end of the 27/28 season (his D+4 year), we would all be very excited for his future.

Elite prospects say 185lbs--thats lagging info.
Hes bigger imo. so hes 190--200 this summer imo.
His size is fine.

You’re not bulking/gaining in the season and/or big tournaments. He’s probably 180 at best right now.

Do you have an agenda against him? I was confusing you with ASOG I guess.
It will be nice to see him at full game weight. Next year in the AHL and this summer he will be set.
He is lean. 185 is his listed weight.
Lindstein gets the next call up IMO.

Agenda? I’m hoping he becomes my favorite player. Listed weight doesn’t mean much and you lose weight after big tournaments. Often 10+ pounds.

You originally said he was near 200 and he’s not close to that. I’d be surprised if he was over 180 right now
