Yeah, trade off works for both sides. Blues get him a little cheaper than the so-called going rate, and he gets to hit free agency after his age 30 season. But we will have a Swedish GM at that point, so I’m guessing Steen will lock him up at that point (assuming the Blues still want to keep him, and I’m sure they will)callitwhatyouwant wrote: ↑10 Jan 2026 16:28 pm What a good deal. I think most people were expecting that contract to get close to 10 million or more. I'm assuming because he took 6, he cut a little of the pay off the top. This is HUGE for the Blues if they can come up with a good plan. Hollywood will get less than he probably was initially going into the season. And they will have actual cap flexibility for the next 2 seasons because of all the young guys going on the roster.
Awesome news for the Blues and Blues fans.

Not that JR has that kind of knowledge but he's as close as we get to the team with these things. They did make it clear that him and hollywoods agent said they would talk in January. Sure enough a deal got done. But he was the one along with Rivers that was saying that Brobergs level of play was going to push him into that double digit number.dhsux wrote: ↑10 Jan 2026 16:38 pmDon't believe most did.callitwhatyouwant wrote: ↑10 Jan 2026 16:28 pm What a good deal. Mainly one with umpteen posts about it.
But those of us in the know knew how much broberg and Holloway liked the Blues and how everyone has treated them opposed to their prior team. Army and Steener are laughing at the trolls. A broken locker room doesn't resign Torpedo a grinder and a future top line defender in the same week.

Great deal.
Anyone that thinks this isn’t a fair/good deal is just trolling or doesn’t know hockey.

90 percent of the hockey Reddit is calling this one of the biggest fumbles in oilers history. Not only did they let a cost controlled defensemen go, he’s blossoming into a top pair defender and just saw what many see to be a very reasonable deal. Even the oil fans are tipping their caps to the blues. Those in the know are laughing at the old oil regime.Bubble4427 wrote: ↑10 Jan 2026 16:56 pm Great deal.

Re: Broberg Extension
If that's the structure then this as good a deal you can get...Blues could trade him off Year 5 or 6 for an absolute mint if he becomes the player he's projected to beLewisL wrote: ↑10 Jan 2026 17:37 pm The staff over at PuckPedia revealed Broberg’s contract breakdown relatively soon after:
