That Cihar goal was absolutely filthy. Was something to behold.

McKenna came off like an entitled baby to me. He didn’t play well and kept whining. While the Czechs were scoring the winning goal, he was complaining he got bumped and he lost his stick.

It was past 1 am by the time I got home so I’m exhausted this morning. But with both the US and Canada out, I’d bet ticket prices for the gold medal game will plummet today on the resale market so I’m trying to find a way to justify going. :D

Just wish I lived closer. 4 hours of driving is a lot for these games.
There was a lot of talk on Reddit by Canada fans that McKenna tried (or did) leave the ice during the awards/anthem. Not sure if you saw that?

But overall yea, he definitely did not help his stock in this tourney, especially last night.
McKenna was given a 10 minute misconduct for abuse of officials and was thus not allowed to be on the ice for the handshakes, player of the game announcements or anthem.

That’s the sort of thing that could get you suspended a game but I saw this morning he’s going to be allowed to play on the Bronze medal game.

Oh gotcha. So maybe he didn't really know what he was supposed to do because of the circumstances.

Either way, that wouldn't have affected my rating of him for the game/tourney. He certainly is not a lock 1OA at this point.

I would agree. He’s no longer a lock for 1st overall. That said, it’s not like Stenberg or Verhoeff has taken the bull by the horns to state their case either.

Right now, I see 5ish relatively equal players at the top of this draft. No Celebrini unfortunately. McKenna is pretty clearly the most talented in terms of raw skills but he also plays the game’s least valuable position (LW) and has some real flaws to his game too. He’s still probably who I would put at #1 today but I’d also probably consider Lawrence or Stenberg as well. And I’ve now got 2-3 other d-men ahead of Verhoeff.

Do you think he’s still going 1st overall? I have some doubts.

10 points, 6 coming against Denmark. Invisible in their biggest moment, and a bunch of immaturity in the post game interview, and not very exciting production at Penn State thus far.

If I’m picking Top 3-5 I’d have a hard time putting that attitude on my roster no matter how talented he is.

If it was bothering him he sure didn’t show it. Dude played 21:35 and led the Czechs in ice time

Yea Verhoeff didn't really stand out to me either. I don't watch prospects nearly as much as you and some others here so the WJC is basically all I see of these guys as far as full games. Based on that, neither McKenna nor Verhoeff were very impressive to me.

McKenna seemed upset about the winning goal not being disallowed for a kick but it clearly was not kicked. Even Canada homer Mike Johnson (though I do like his analysis) said it was a good call without question.

A lot of Canadians on Reddit are lamenting Canada hockey and how many are being priced out of the AAA hockey system. Meaning they are only getting the skilled rich kids who are often entitled and not willing to work.

Jiricek would been drafted higher if he wasn't injured at the time. Great pick.

I don’t think that’s solely a Canadian problem.

The AAA Lady Blues cost about $6,000-$7,000 a season on the low end. It’s crazy. Especially when you consider that women’s hockey is one of the top 3-5 “easiest” athletic scholarships to learn.
