Im not sure whats got you in your feelings but torpo kessel and tucker do not make the point you think it does. Binner hofer and parry do. Goalies i do not put in the same category since they seldom get drafted in the first and how much of a crapshoot they are. Still great finds tho.27-12-16 wrote: ↑29 Dec 2025 00:56 am Current roster that was drafted by the Blues in or after the 3rd round
Colton....... 3rd
Torpo........ 4th
Kessel....... 5th
Tucker....... 7th
Binner....... 3rd
Hofer....... 4th
That is over 25% of the Blues entire roster that was drafted in house in or after the 3rd round. Cool story dude![]()

Re: Hitting on late picks
Thank you for the breakdown and taking the time to respond and not solely taking this as a negative post or thinking im dumping on parayko. He is a great player.Atlantis17A wrote: ↑28 Dec 2025 22:36 pm In the NHL, the percentages by round that a drafted player plays more than 200 games,
• 1st round: about 40–60% (higher for top‑10 picks, lower late in the round).
• 2nd round: about 20–30%.
• 3rd round: roughly 10–15%.
• 4th round: roughly 5–10%.
• 5th round: roughly 5–10%.
• 6th round: roughly 5–10%.
• 7th round: roughly 5–10%.
The Blues are like every other team when it comes to finding late round gems. The few random players you name are outliers. As for Parayko, he was not on anyone’s radar before the draft. He was a fantastic find.
But those names took maybe 5 minutes to find while searching maybe 6-8 team rosters. My point is that there are plenty out there. The biggest difference for the most part is needing players in STL that make others around them better.

With all due respect that list took 5 minutes roughly to put together. And i already knew those guys were not 1st or 2nd rounders. except kuch. Thats why i picked them. There are plenty of examples.Lets_Clinch wrote: ↑28 Dec 2025 22:23 pm I think Blues have had plenty of hits in the later rounds especially in the last 10 years. You picked what 6 guys all drafted by different teams to make up your list-that's hardly fair. We have a lot of guys in the lineup now who fit your criteria and define what you say we have been unable to do in the draft.
I remember seeing a stat a bit ago about how the blues do a good job of getting nhl games out of our later picks. Im talking about getting difference makers, not roster players.
Ps-not calling parry “just a roster player”
Re: Hitting on late picks
Younghopp you labeled the players you are referencing as "productive staples" then call CP a "great player" (as I would call JB as well btw) but then exclude them from any part of your example list. I confess to be confused, particularly so with the elite play of both of these players who did the heavy lifting to bring a Cup to STL.Younghopp1991 wrote: ↑29 Dec 2025 04:48 amWith all due respect that list took 5 minutes roughly to put together. I beg to differ with that exclusion for what ever it's worth, no dig intended....and I compliment you on the thread topic....it's a great question to ask.

Ok so i understand the confusion as far as goalies. I exclude them because there are a lot of undrafted goalies and others primarily drafted brtween rounds 3 and later.
Bobrovsky- undrafted
Logan thompson- undrafted
Shesterkin- 4th
Quick- 3rd
Ullmark was a beast for boston- 6th
Swayman-4th
Saros-4th
So even tho goalies DO getting drafted in the 1st round (MAF, vasi, otter, etc…) the norm is mid round.
As far as the tucker and kessel type. They get nhl time but they are not worth talking about in this discussion.
Parayko is great. He would immediately have 30+ teams calling for him if he hit the market. He was a gem in the 3rd round.
I could be 1000% wrong and ill admit that but i believe it is more difficult to find a consistent 30,40+ goal scorer who puts up a ppg at least rather than a 6ft 6 stay at home defender who gets zero pp time. Parry also came up with petro and Bouwmeester which backs up my point about becoming the best player you can when others around you make the game easier.
