Would love to get cijntje and montes...if we could get mcgraw thrown in it would be a really good haul. Celesten and arroyo would also be of interest if montes is not on the table.

From the tweet:
The Mariners and Giants have emerged as frontrunners in a potential trade for Brendan Donovan, according to multiple league sources, with the Cardinals looking to land multiple prospects in a return.
Landing multiple "prospects" from Donovan, WC, Romero is a red herring. Don't need more mediocre lottery picks. The system has plenty.

Go for one great prospect!

Just my not-so-humble opinion to leave wrecked on the roadside of broken hopes and dreams.

I couldn't think of a lyric Bulldog. Green Day and Elvis Costello come to mind. But figure you have the library of songs in your head. No pressure.

Cheers. I am with the you all and the Cardinals until the end.

No that thought was engaging. I was gonna do a line from Sweet Melissa- Gregg Allman. Something about crossroads; they seem to come and go. .

Several top prospects have been discussed in negotiations, including infielder Gavin Kilen and left-hander Carson Whisenhunt, according to a league source. It’s believed at least two organizational prospects will be required to land Donovan, who has acquired interest from over half the league.
I haven't said this all offseason, but if that is all the return is, I'd rather keep Donovan, and I'm someone who firmly believes he should be traded.
I agree. If Bloom isn't offered an abundance of high level talent for Donovan. Keep him. The return speculation that caught my attention was Dominguez and Lagrange from the Yankees.

from the link:

One name the Cardinals have inquired on is pitcher Jurrangelo Cijntje, a first-round draft pick for Seattle in 2024, who throws both right- and left-handed. Outfielder Lazaro Montes has also been discussed, among others.

St. Louis has plenty of familiarity with the Mariners’ pitching system. Director of pitching Matt Pierpont spent four seasons with the Mariners before coming to the Cardinals ahead of the 2025 season. Seattle could also be motivated to make a big acquisition after losing Jorge Polanco to the New York Mets.

Opti
We have a director of pitching? Is that a fancy name for pitching coach or is it something else?

What the Role Usually Means
Organizational Oversight: Unlike a pitching coach (who works directly with the MLB roster during games), a Director of Pitching oversees the entire pitching program across the organization — from the majors down through the farm system.

Development Philosophy: They set the pitching philosophy, training methods, and performance metrics. This includes biomechanics, pitch design, workload management, and injury prevention strategies.

Scouting & Evaluation: They help evaluate prospects and minor-league arms, often working closely with analytics departments to identify talent and optimize development.

Coordination: They act as a bridge between front office executives, player development staff, and coaches, ensuring consistency in how pitchers are trained and assessed.

📌 Pierpont’s Specific Context
The page notes that Matt Pierpont spent four seasons with the Mariners before joining the Cardinals in 2025.

That background gives him insider familiarity with Seattle’s pitching prospects and developmental system, which is highly relevant since the Cardinals are negotiating with the Mariners for Brendan Donovan.

His insight could help St. Louis identify which Mariners arms (like Jurrangelo Cijntje or other young pitchers) are most valuable or have untapped potential.

🔑 Difference from a Pitching Coach
Pitching Coach Director of Pitching
Works daily with MLB pitchers Oversees pitching across all levels
Focuses on game prep, mechanics, strategy Focuses on long-term development and philosophy
Reports to manager Reports to front office / player development leadership
Tactical role Strategic role

So, Pierpont isn’t just tweaking mechanics in the bullpen — he’s shaping the Cardinals’ entire pitching pipeline. His Mariners background makes him a particularly important figure in trade talks with Seattle, since he knows their system inside and out.

Listening to Mariners followers it seems that they see Montes as having a high bust potential. Comparisons to Alveraz is not applicable as he doesn’t have the hit tool of Alveraz. They view Emerson, Sloan ,Anderson and Farmelo as the untouchables.
People may not be as high on Cijntje but he was rated as having the best fastball in their minors hitting upper 90’s from the right side. He does have more of a reliever profile than a starter though.
The most sure prospect outside of Emerson is Arroyo. He’s learning to play the outfield this winter after playing on the infield. With his plate discipline and good contact rates he could turn into a right handed Donovan down the road with the ability to play multiple positions with a bit more power and speed but not quite the defender.
Cijntje, Arroyo and a comp b pick would be a haul for Donovan. Most likely would have to include a reliever such as Jo Jo but in that case Cards should ask for another prospect in the 10 to 15 range.

Agree with your entire take regarding Seattle.
IF including Romero though the take would need to include the
upside that Bloom and company want not a consolation. IF that's Cijntje
more than Sloan, fine but I'd be surprised.

Braves re-signed Kim. That should boost the Donovan market elsewhere.

a pretty good read here:
https://www.vivaelbirdos.com/st-louis-c ... -scenarios

here is the writer's conclusion for what it's worth. the writer's, not mine. I added the red part which is what I said yesterday.

I’m gonna go ahead and toss out a prediction and I’ll even go so far as to predict that it will happen this week. I think that the San Francisco Giants will be the team that ends up giving the St. Louis Cardinals the prospects they want because I believe they really do NEED either Ketel Marte or Brendan Donovan and I don’t think the Arizona Diamondbacks want to trade within their division even if Marte is willing to go there. That leaves Chaim Bloom and his high ask for multiple prospects as the likely winner.
