Utah will get $500M in return. This is just the start of eventually pulling the college athletic programs away from universities and into separate businesses. This is different than the Big10 deal that was $2.4B for a 10yr rights of media ownership. College sports has changed more in last 2 years than it did in the first 125yrs, and much more change is coming.

I think of it as a home equity loan - you are trying to put an asset to work. I read where the term of the B1G is way to long though. Less than 10 years makes more sense I think. I think some management pressure/ organizational torque may be good for a lot of way to comfy college athletic depts.rezero wrote: ↑09 Dec 2025 18:19 pm Utah will get $500M in return. I like the way Michigans AD Manuel addressed the big10s plan. He started with “I have this friend who has a spending problem”. Then he went on to say some Big10 schools needs ani fusion of cash to keep spending at the current levels, yet nobody is trying to fix the actual spending problem.

Utah has a strong culture of financal excellence - would pay close attention to what UUtah works out with private equity. An extra $500M moves the needle in a big way.
