December 7th The Blues are 2 points back. Woof.
This is an interesting time for the Blues to finally start finding some kind of game. They still can't separate. 1 Goal wins are going to be taxing if they can't figure out how to get a couple easy ones. Flip side is that's how playoff hockey is played.
Blues are 2 points back of the Mammoth. Hawks have game in hand to push that distance. But 2 points back of a playoff spot after all of this mess? I guess it's a good thing Dallas and the Avs are taking everyone to the woodshed. Allows for the rest of the standings to be squished a bit.

They do have some games on those teams but it shows you how top heavy the league is this year that the Blues can climb back into this relatively easily
Re: December 7th The Blues are 2 points back. Woof.
Another week of winning more than losing and they could be sitting pretty in a spot.

But what about their draft position? Won't somebody please think about their draft position?!

Exactly, if they make the playoffs and win a Stanley Cup, that could really put a damper on next year's draft position.Jeff Goldblum wrote: ↑07 Dec 2025 21:10 pm But what about their draft position? Won't somebody please think about their draft position?!

Counterpoint: last year's team was as close to a Cinderella as this squad can rise to becoming, and they fell well short. And this year's team doesn't seem to be as good as last year's.
I'll always root for wins, and any playoff experience is valuable. But this team isn't as good as last year's.

That’s the truly baffling part. With the exception of Bolduc, this IS last year’s team. Faksa sure, but the 4th line guys are interchangeableArmy's Mom wrote: ↑08 Dec 2025 10:03 amLol.blackinkbiz wrote: ↑07 Dec 2025 22:12 pmExactly, if they make the playoffs and win a Stanley Cup, that could really put a damper on next year's draft position.Jeff Goldblum wrote: ↑07 Dec 2025 21:10 pm But what about their draft position? Let's not forget how unwatchable this team was last year until after the all-star break.Army's Mom wrote: ↑08 Dec 2025 10:03 amLol.blackinkbiz wrote: ↑07 Dec 2025 22:12 pmExactly, if they make the playoffs and win a Stanley Cup, that could really put a damper on next year's draft position.Jeff Goldblum wrote: ↑07 Dec 2025 21:10 pm But what about their draft position? Almost all teams have bad stretches throughout the season. Id rather they get theirs out of the way sooner rather than later.

They've found ways to scrape together points despite the goaltending and offense playing well below what they're capable of.Jeff Goldblum wrote: ↑08 Dec 2025 10:16 amLet's not forget how unwatchable this team was last year until after the all-star break.Army's Mom wrote: ↑08 Dec 2025 10:03 amLol.blackinkbiz wrote: ↑07 Dec 2025 22:12 pmExactly, if they make the playoffs and win a Stanley Cup, that could really put a damper on next year's draft position.Jeff Goldblum wrote: ↑07 Dec 2025 21:10 pm But what about their draft position? If you can hang around .500 when the majority of your team is underperforming, that bodes well for what it'll look like when things start coming together.
Doesn't always play out that way, but hopefully it will for the Blues.
Re: December 7th The Blues are 2 points back. Woof.
If you break it down with the West, you have CO and Dallas tearing it up (the Blues are 1-0 against those 2) but probably the biggest reason is that all 3 of the Ducks, Hawks, and Sharks are not giving away points to everyone. Everyone in the West is still within close distance of a playoff spot, which is crazy.
Nashville is last at 7 points out but they have 2 games in hand on Utah, so they would only be 3 points out if they won those 2 games!
Re: December 7th The Blues are 2 points back. Woof.
The Blues have honestly looked very solid since that 5 game road trip. The Ducks and Boston game were off but not terrible if you break it down. Bad goaltending combined with simply not converting on their chances was the main problem there.blackinkbiz wrote: ↑08 Dec 2025 10:46 amThey've found ways to scrape together points despite the goaltending and offense playing well below what they're capable of.Jeff Goldblum wrote: ↑08 Dec 2025 10:16 amLet's not forget how unwatchable this team was last year until after the all-star break.Army's Mom wrote: ↑08 Dec 2025 10:03 amLol.blackinkbiz wrote: ↑07 Dec 2025 22:12 pmExactly, if they make the playoffs and win a Stanley Cup, that could really put a damper on next year's draft position.Jeff Goldblum wrote: ↑07 Dec 2025 21:10 pm But what about their draft position? They started playing tighter defense as a whole and that has allowed their goalies to play better. Binner is still way too inconsistent but I saw Hofer’s save % has been something like .925 for the past month.
Give Hofer the starter role and if guys like Thomas (good game vs MTL), Holloway (starting to look like last year), and Buch/Scheen can go on a tear then all of a sudden this season isn’t lost like it felt like.

Re: December 7th The Blues are 2 points back. Woof.
if we win it's the goaltending; if we lose it's the goaltending (even with everything that's gone on; I still believe we have the best tandem in the NHL
- it's in their eyes I tell you). that should say everything. overall, we're just not that good.
the west has a lot of bubble teams (a few playing above their weight), so we'll be alright (we'll back in to the playoffs). I was actually getting excited about a top five pick possiblity. oh well.....

Re: December 7th The Blues are 2 points back. Woof.
bottom line, we only go as far as our goaltending takes us; when/ if they go on heaters we'll be all o.k. and 8th place locked up. woot! woot!!
...and we can steal a round; possibly.

Interesting stat.
Since mid November, the Blues are 5-0 when playing on Friday Saturday or Sunday. Monday through Thursday, they are 0-3-3.
