Terrible defensive effort by Crews. Guarding his man at the FT line. A simple jab step and he turns his back on the shooter and goes to the rim leaving his man alone at the FT line. WTF!!

I don’t know what the fascination is with the guy. The rare occasions when he gets hot are far outnumbered by the times he gets embarrassed on defense.

Many posters on here thought he would play a big part on this team, never understood that either.

I’ll say this for SEMO, they’re knocking down tough shots. Our D has been terrible but they’re even making the contested jumpers. I bet this is as good as they can play and as bad as we can play.

This would be a bad loss, we have to find a way to pull this out and regroup.

Phillips is exciting with his jumping ability and strong under the basket, but he’s an atrocious defensive player too. Always a step behind and rarely in the right spot. I like Northweather in there when you need steady play, and he can shoot.

Crews, Stone, Robinson, Northweather, Mitchell are on the floor. Mitchell inbounds the ball and the ball comes back to Mitchell who holds the ball until he is fouled. My question??? WHY!! Of all of the guys on the floor, Mitchell is the last guy I want shooting FTs.

Having said that perimeter defense, close outs and free throws, turnovers have been problems under Gates.

I'd like to see a better sense of urgency in trying to clean up these matters.

It feels like we say the same thing every season with Gates and nothing ever changes. I don’t know if he doesn’t recruit guys that can play defense or if he just doesn’t care. After a while with the same issues you have to assume defense doesn’t matter to him.
