Re: Name 3 Cardinal players you want traded …
Looking at the roster congestion outside of the NTC guys, they have too many catchers, middle infielders, and left handed hitters. They could even move on from a left handed pitcher from this years' AA team. The only players I wouldn't trade due to talent, or roster necessity are Winn, Wetherholt, Scott, Liberatore, McGreevy, Doyle, Rodriguez, and Josh Baez.

Re: Name 3 Cardinal players you want traded …
Trading two of the few RH hitting starters like Nado and Willycon, is dangerous.
There is no 3b option, and I doubt Cards eat money moving Nado and getting anything back. Although, I would put JJ at 3b
WillyCon wants to stay. He's the only leader on the team.
I'm all for listening to the entire roster but there needs to be more than just a "warm body" replacing those who are traded.
With that said:
I'm trading 2 of the multiple catchers on the roster.
I'm trading any 2 of the CFers on the roster
I'm trading Hurdy Gurdy
I'm keeping all and any arms
I see nothing to replace the holes already on the team in that regard

Re: Name 3 Cardinal players you want traded …
This is a tough question because I have 2 different groups.
Who I want them to move for best return
Donovan Gray Contreras
Who I want them to trade to fix bad roster construction
Arenado Nootbar Gorman

Excellent analysis ! Like your list of players you would not trade .. I would add one more to the group ... Last year's 2nd round pick ..Ryan MitchellTalkin' Baseball wrote: ↑29 Oct 2025 10:30 am Looking at the roster congestion outside of the NTC guys, they have too many catchers, middle infielders, and left handed hitters. In the Baseball America rating of the 2025 MLB Draft report card for St. Louis , Mitchell was picked as best pure hitter strong hand-eye coordination
and bat to ball skills. While originally an infielder , the Cardinals quick designated him an outfielder and CF spot.
He is currently the 10th ranked prospect and just 18 years old last year. His ETA for the majors is 2029. Hope they keep him around in the group you mentioned.

Good take, Mr. Scout. You’ve captured the Cards redundancy at certain positions very well. I’ll also add that most of the Cards catchers aren’t very good catchers or can’t hit.scoutyjones2 wrote: ↑29 Oct 2025 10:37 am Trading two of the few RH hitting starters like Nado and Willycon, is dangerous.

Regarding Donovan, I agree with trading him away IF the return warrants it. Now that Mozo is gone, I’m more optimistic.
But 2026 is gonna be a dead year, no question.

My addendum:
After I prioritize trading Arenado, Gray, and Contreras, I would also look to trade one of Pages/Crooks and Donovan (if the return is there).

Re: Name 3 Cardinal players you want traded …
I'll stick with what I believe is realistic. I don't see Contreras finding a deal to his liking, and Arenado has gotten worse since passing on the Astros. Walker, Gorman, and Nootbaar wouldn't return much now.
1) Gray - Time for the Orioles to loosen up and try to contend. If not them Detroit could work. The Cards likely would have to eat 10-15 million of his deal for a good prospect return.
2) Donovan - He is at a point where they could buy out arb and extend, or trade. He has had several teams express interest so should net a good return from a team trying to contend.
3) Burleson - Above average at the plate last year but still lacks HR power and other tools. Last year seemed to be at or near his peak so a good candidate to sell high on.

Re: Name 3 Cardinal players you want traded …
Hard to say just 3 but because of contract costs hampering the teams future dip into free agency it has to be Arenado, Contreras and Gray. The others I would like to see gone just because we have seen enough, and I want CHANGE due to a severe lack of production, Nootbar, Walker, Gorman.
Re: Name 3 Cardinal players you want traded …
They won't be even close to the playoffs for 2 years with no superstars
and no top-tier pitching. Reality always wins. So...
Shop everyone.
I would only prioritize according to what value I am offered in return, concentrating only on getting young talent. Arenado won't bring much. Donny may bring as much value as anyone, as he is cheap with 2 more years of control.
This article from yesterday lists some suitors. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2025/10/ ... trade.html
