I mean, the last productive season from Gil Hodges was 1959. If you have memory of seeing this guy play, you have to be ancient.OldRed wrote: ↑28 Oct 2025 18:53 pmBy that, I guess I'm older than you.ShakeyWalton wrote: ↑28 Oct 2025 11:49 amJesus, how old are you? Re: Freddie Freeman
LOL I was thinking how does Freeman compare to Eddie Gaedel, shortest player in MLB history at 3 ft. 7 in. Sure Old red knows him .
Gaedel got on base every at bat in his career . (walked on 4 pitches and replaced for pinch runner ) Only plate appearance but 100% successful reaching base. Freeman can't match that
PS I was 3 years old when Gaedel played. Remember in Kindergarten (age 5) my father talking about Eddie's debut. Gave hope to all of us little kids of playing in the majors too someday

I was minus 3 when Eddie Gaedel made that appearance. The Brownies moved to Baltimore when I was minus 1 so I never saw them.ramfandan wrote: ↑29 Oct 2025 10:15 amLOL I was thinking how does Freeman compare to Eddie Gaedel, shortest player in MLB history at 3 ft. 7 in. Sure Old red knows him .

100% agree with you, Goldy.Goldfan wrote: ↑28 Oct 2025 19:04 pmAgreed. Freeman still has hits and HR in that bat. If he sticks with LA perhaps more WS lure…..An Old Friend wrote: ↑28 Oct 2025 14:39 pmYes on Freeman, and he’s headed towards 1st ballot enshrinement. 2 years left on his contract so should be over 400 HR and 2700 hits at that point with multiple titles.rockondlouie wrote: ↑28 Oct 2025 11:48 am Yes, both of these:
Freeman
367 HR
1322 RBI
2431 Hits
.300 .386 .511 .897
9 time all star
MVP (seven top 10 finishes)
1 Gold Glove
3 Silver Sluggers
64.8 fWAR
141 wRC+
Goldy
372 HR
1232 RBI
2190 Hits
.288 .378 .504 .882
7 time all star
MVP (six top 10 finishes)
4 Gold Gloves
5 Silver Sluggers
57.3 fWAR
142 wRC+
Freddie gets in the Hall before Goldy but both (IMO) get in.
I think Goldschmidt is out of gas and comes up short.
As we were able to watch Goldy closely here…..He’s not in Freeman’s class. He would go weeks in an ice cold slump when the team needed him and his leadership/PS qualities falls short of Freeman.
Freeman has the numbers PLUS he’s been HUGE in the postseason.
Your namesake has the numbers, but shrinks in the spotlight.
Goldschmidt may eventually get in the HOF if the voters look at numbers, but I’d say it’s no better than 50/50.
Cheers,

Actually, I’m partial to Norm Larker, who lost his position to that dillweed Ron Fairly. My Norm Larker model first baseman’s mitt was gold for me.
Re: Freddie Freeman
Even in Goldys MVP year he basically quit hitting in Sept and when the playoffs arrived he was like a fella they brought out of the jungle somewhere and gave a bat to. Never forget……the ball bounced in front of the plate and he swung at it Striking out with men on base….Hazelwood72 wrote: ↑29 Oct 2025 10:25 am100% agree with you, Goldy.Goldfan wrote: ↑28 Oct 2025 19:04 pmAgreed. I'm just glad there was a time in our history where Norm Larker's were in the majors. More Larker's and less Kike Hernandez's please.Rojo Johnson wrote: ↑29 Oct 2025 10:37 amActually, I’m partial to Norm Larker, who lost his position to that dillweed Ron Fairly. Baseball would be even more enjoyable if every team had a Kike Hernandez.ShakeyWalton wrote: ↑29 Oct 2025 12:34 pmI'm just glad there was a time in our history where Norm Larker's were in the majors. to go with 400 HRs, and MVP, 8 top-10 MVP finishes, could end as a top-10 all time doubles hitter, 2x world champion and working on a 3rd.
