Championship teams don’t let a blown call which didn’t even decide Game 6 cause a complete collapse in Game 7. One of the most overblown bad calls in WS history.
Well if the call was made correctly, the Cardinals are World champions. Period. No 7 th game.
So if I lose the first two games if a WS on blown calls. Someone will argue that if I am a championship team, I should still win 4 of the final 5 games . Ridiculous !
If Frank White was correctly called safe earlier, the Cards wouldn't have been leading 1-0.
If Porter hadn't had his PB, the Cards could have won.
If Clark didn't botch the pop up, Cards could have won.
If the Cards could have hit a lick, they could have won.
But yeah - the WS was lost because of one bad call by Denk. 8O

I hated him as a kid.
Later on seeing interviews with him and reading about him I grew to respect him.

First question he asked that night was “I didn’t blow that call did I?”

As stated above, cards had plenty of chances to make that a fn in a championship

A good man who made a mistake. Mistake just happened to be super important to the 314 and forgotten everywhere else.

I have a now deceased friend who waited till November and drove to Iowa to Denkinger's home. He went up, knocked on the door and Denkinger answered. He asked him "how could you make that call". Then got in his vehicle and drove home, about 150 miles. He felt he had to get it out of his system.
If so, pathetic on your friends part
Not nasty like the letter, just asked a simple question. No profanity.
It's sad that an adult let's it consume them so much to search out and find this guy over a freaking baseball game. It's pathetic and disturbing. Bordering on pathalogical

It's hard to have a rational discussion who analyze baseball with stats and sabermetrics while ignoring the human aspect of sport. Your post here opens the discussion to several things that contributed to the Cardinals losing the World Series to an inferior team. The key to the WS may have been Game 3. Cards up 2-0 so KC but their ace on the mound in Brett Saberhagan. The Cards countered with 21-game winner Joaquin Andujar. Looks good to the stathead, right? Here's what the stats don't tell you (unless you dig into them and know what to look for). Andujar was great that year until about mid-August, and stunk after that. He had an ERA in the LCs near 7. And yes, he stunk in the WS. What happened in August? The Mets Keith Hernandez implicated Anduhar on the witness stand in MLB's drug trials as a cokehead. We don't know if Andugar deciced to pitch sober and couldn't or if his fiery personality couldn't handle the new noteriety. Either way, Andujar was not a good pitcher by then and lost to the Royals 6-1.
Championship teams and players overcome bad crud like bad calls and personal issues. So you're confirming that this was not a championship team for the Cardinals because a few of the players had boo-boos.
PS - And championship teams score more than one run in Games 6 & 7.
Yet they were 2 outs a way from a world champtionship. Take your simplistic platitudes somewhere else.
And collapsed. Then got rolled the next game.

If Oli was manager and that happened...he'd be lynched. But Whitey...crickets. all rainbows and butterflies

Aren't teams a reflection of their manager or is it only if CT likes and loves the manager?

That's a circular argument. So much for the logical part.
You may dispute the “WS history” part as being an exaggeration, but there is absolutely nothing circular about the argument, Brummer. You need to brush up on your logic. It never was your strong suit.
