Re: Happy Denkingerversary
Whitey's worst showing as a manager. They should have regrouped and won game 7.
Re: Happy Denkingerversary
You win the 1st 2 in KC, you have to wrap it up in STL. Couldn't do it. You lose 2 of 3 at home, and...

Exactly but some CT morons forget there was still more game to be played and another opportunity in another game where they folded again. I blame the manager, but that won't fly on CT because the White Rat is a perceived God. Hell, Oli gets [shirt] for removing Quintana in a 0-0 playoff game, affected nothing..ClassicO wrote: ↑27 Oct 2025 13:41 pm Baseball Reference does a win probability analysis and it shows:
1. Before the call, the Cardinals had an 80% chance of winning the game.
2. The incorrect safe call only lowered their probability to 66%.
3. It was the subsequent string of miscues (Clark drops pop-up; Porter's PB) and more hits that ultimately led to the Game 6 defeat.
4. They lost game 7 (and don't blame that on mental state [nonsense]).
If he had his team collapse like Whitey, he'd be run out of town instantly
Re: Happy Denkingerversary
I shudder to think how that team would have reacted to losing a game like last night’s. I could see them getting outscored 88-nil over the next two.

It's hard to have a rational discussion who analyze baseball with stats and sabermetrics while ignoring the human aspect of sport. Your post here opens the discussion to several things that contributed to the Cardinals losing the World Series to an inferior team. The key to the WS may have been Game 3. Cards up 2-0 so KC but their ace on the mound in Brett Saberhagan. The Cards countered with 21-game winner Joaquin Andujar. Looks good to the stathead, right? Here's what the stats don't tell you (unless you dig into them and know what to look for). Andujar was great that year until about mid-August, and stunk after that. He had an ERA in the LCs near 7. And yes, he stunk in the WS. What happened in August? The Mets Keith Hernandez implicated Anduhar on the witness stand in MLB's drug trials as a cokehead. We don't know if Andugar deciced to pitch sober and couldn't or if his fiery personality couldn't handle the new noteriety. Either way, Andujar was not a good pitcher by then and lost to the Royals 6-1.
Re: Happy Denkingerversary
Championship teams and players overcome bad crud like bad calls and personal issues. So you're confirming that this was not a championship team for the Cardinals because a few of the players had boo-boos.BrummerStealsHome wrote: ↑28 Oct 2025 11:00 amIt's hard to have a rational discussion who analyze baseball with stats and sabermetrics while ignoring the human aspect of sport. PS - And championship teams score more than one run in Games 6 & 7.

Yet they were 2 outs a way from a world champtionship. Take your simplistic platitudes somewhere else.ClassicO wrote: ↑28 Oct 2025 14:39 pmChampionship teams and players overcome bad crud like bad calls and personal issues. That's a circular argument. So much for the logical part.cardiological wrote: ↑28 Oct 2025 14:56 pm^^^This^^^
Championship teams don’t let a blown call which didn’t even decide Game 6 cause a complete collapse in Game 7. One of the most overblown bad calls in WS history.
Re: Happy Denkingerversary
Yeah, the call did not prevent the Cardinals from closing out the inning. Get 3 outs and certainly don't let some nobody named Iorg apply the finishing touch.cardiological wrote: ↑28 Oct 2025 14:56 pm^^^This^^^

Re: Happy Denkingerversary
Well if the call was made correctly, the Cardinals are World champions. Period. No 7 th game.cardiological wrote: ↑28 Oct 2025 14:56 pm^^^This^^^

So if I lose the first two games if a WS on blown calls. Someone will argue that if I am a championship team, I should still win 4 of the final 5 games . Ridiculous !

He was from Waterloo, Iowa which is close to where I live.
Many years after the event, my elderly neighbor died.
I went to the visitation. I looked up and who was standing next to me? Don Denkinger. I kept my cool in respect for my neighbor.

If so, pathetic on your friends partMIDMOBIRDTWO wrote: ↑27 Oct 2025 21:35 pmI have a now deceased friend who waited till November and drove to Iowa to Denkinger's home. Still quite creepy TBH, in the wake of death threats against the ump. Not fair to him or his family during what undoubtedly was a trying time for them.MIDMOBIRDTWO wrote: ↑28 Oct 2025 19:50 pmNot nasty like the letter, just asked a simple question.
