I think the pronger and Mailloux trade comparison the STL sports media is using right now isn't helping the Mailloux situation at all tbh. I don't know why on gods green earth you would make that comparison.. Janney situation Shanahan being a HOF Pronger a future HOF and highly touted prospect etc. I get they were both young defense that struggled early and got booed but Logan truly doesn't need to be compared to pronger in anyway right now let the kid breathe WTF is the PR/Media doing to this kid.
In no way am I or is/did Pronger make that comparison.

Prongers comments on the young player, and his own experience as a young player, are quite relevant.
i didn't say pronger did i'm saying this has been a talking point for a week already on STL talk radio and in the papers. I listened to the entire interview.

You don't want to pressure the kid so you you make the comparable to the the Pronger trade and keep talking about how pronger made it through this and how the fandom booed him and you don't think thats inciting some feelings? our fandom over reacts to EVERYTHING.
There is no comparable.

We didn't trade a HOF for a future HOF.

We traded a solid winger for a work in progress dman.

I don't understand why this is being treated like Bolduc is heading to his 8th straight all star game and we are dealing with someone who will be lucky to be in the league in 3 years.

This.

We can agree that Army was wrong to say Mailloux is ready for full time NHL work. Army probably shouldn't have gone out on a limb making that claim despite Mailloux's inexperience and mixed early results. The past four games doesn't really change things as much as it clarifies how much work is needed.

Of course, watching Bolduc play as well as he can (at the other extreme from Mailloux) makes the early comparisons inevitably hurtful. But it is what it is. The question is, how do the Blues course correct?
No, we cannot agree. Yes, a LOT of work is needed. Yes, Bolduc at this point is irrelevant.

Mailloux has talent, he needs to process game situations better. There is no Bedard in the AHL, he needs to learn how to handle him and the talent in the NHL.

I do believe Tucker and Mailloux are proving that both is a bridge too far, at least for now. It is fair to ask where the Blues should place their bets, it's also clear what the answer is to that question. Tucker can play better but I think we saw his ceiling at the end of last season.
You believe after watching Mailloux for four games that Armstrong was correct when he said this clearly overmatched person is ready for full NHL work? That was hype and hope,
Multiple people have said LM is NHL ready
Everyone is talking about it?

Probably because Armey's track record with trading away D and signing D has been less than stellar. At worst, the return for Bolduc should have been more given his further development compared to Mailloux at exactly the same age.

Thing that a lot of people are missing is positional value.

RHD has a lot more value compared to wing.

Bolduc is a young middle 6 winger, who's ceiling is a top 6 winger.

Mailoux is an established AHL all star RHD who's next step is the NHL, and who's ceiling is projected as being a top 4 dman.

Of course it would have been better to get a more established player, but a young RHD already playing in the top 4 is going to cost a lot more than Bolduc.

The logic behind the trade is sound but there is definite risk that Mailoux doesnt hit and doesnt become an NHL player.

Pretty much exactly.

Now give him the time and games to find out what kind of trade the Blues actually made.

If Mailloux simply becomes a servicable 3/4 RD, with his size & offense, the trade made sense. Even if he's a bust, it still made sense. Is he or isn't he ahead of any other RHD in our pipeline ?
At any rate as already said, its way too early to be drawing any conclusions.

I think the point w/ Pronger isn't to compare him in terms of potential, but to emphasize that even as great a shut-down, ice-time-eating d-man as that gangly kid became, it was a process.

It's simply amazing how small the expectations are around here.

The management group that evaluated Bolduc and Mailloux is STILL IN PLACE. They will continue to make gross errors into the future. Consider the facts fully. Army has been trying to replace Pietrangelo for 6 years. Mailloux is but the LATEST FAILURE. Pietrangelo came in as a #4 pick, before Army's time.

We need a GM that can find and develop an elite RHD. Army is failing. Period.

After, what, <20 games, including pre-season, you have pronounced this rookie D-man a failure. hmkay. A rational expectation is that its early days to be issuing proclamations, report cards. Btw, is Broberg a bust ? But your schtik here is to agitate, so have at it.

If LM doesn't work out, don't we also have Jiricek potentially in a year or two to be that same person? This feels like textbook trade from an area of strength to an area of weakness and then layer in possible positive outcomes.

It is virtually impossible to predict the future but you can give yourself a better opportunity taking calculated risks. Again another point of trading Bolduc is that his is due money at the end of the year and with two good established years he is due a substantial raise most likely. If LM has a so-so year he will be due much less new money on a bridge deal. You can sign Broberg and Holloway to appropriate contracts and then figure out who LM is while Jiricek is seasoning to see if he is is worth extending (then you also can bring in Jiricek at a respectable deal if they both work out).

Bolduc's raise alone would probably eat up a good chunk of the entry level contracts for the next set of folks that could come up like Dvorsky, Stenberg, Lindstein, etc.

Army has traded for the following(off the top of my head, not going to be able to remember every single trade):

Faulk
Gunnerson
Bouwmeester
Fowler
Scandella
Leddy
Mailloux
That's actually a pretty good trading record overall, and nothing of major significance given up for any of them, unless you want to count Bolduc.

His UFA defensemen signings (only dealing with ones of significance as every team signs depth defensemen):

Krug
Suter
Wade Redden
Calle Rosen

I mean I'm not seeing where there is anything to back up the claim that he has been less than stellar. At worst he's been above average as 2 that he traded for were major pieces of a Cup winning defense.

Listen I'm not discounting Bolduc, and he's off to a great start, but we are wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy overreacting to both starts because of the 2 home losses.

For half the season last year many on this board (myself included) was beginning to wonder if Bolduc had become more suspect than prospect. Now many are acting as if we traded away Brett Hull part deux.

RHD simply have far more value and cost more in trades than wingers and that's just the truth in the modern NHL. We can sit at home on our keyboards and say Army should have gotten more, but what if more wasn't available? What if wanting more gets the deal done for another team?

It was a massive position of need and for better or worse this is the player the Blues and their scouting staff determined was their guy and they got him. Now we see if pays off. All the pearl clutching however is already reaching Eric Brewer levels.

In order to become a perennial anything don't you have to accomplish said thing first? At this point he's not even a perennial 20 goal scorer.
