..To when all of the armchair GMs on this site, and all of the Blues' blog "fanboys", were writing in their online columns about how Ville Husso was the future and that Binnington was expendable and would never match the magic of 2019, etc. Meanwhile, others were pumping the brakes on his ascension to glory, pointing out some pretty obvious holes in his play that would be exposed if he were to be a number 1.

Yep not really surprising.
Wonder if Buffalo would have grabbed one of these guys instead had they been waived before Ellis.

JB is brought up here multiple times a year for a trade.bud white wrote: ↑07 Oct 2025 14:01 pm ..To when all of the armchair GMs on this site, and all of the Blues' blog "fanboys", were writing in their online columns about how Ville Husso was the future and that Binnington was expendable and would never match the magic of 2019, etc. Meanwhile, others were pumping the brakes on his ascension to glory, pointing out some pretty obvious holes in his play that would be exposed if he were to be a number 1.

I wish the best for Ellis and hope he gets a chance to play. He was in a tough spot here, obviously. But it wouldn’t surprise me if we end up getting him back at some point this season.

Frank I get how he can come back to us....but not if he's good.Frank Underwood wrote: ↑07 Oct 2025 16:41 pm I wish the best for Ellis and hope he gets a chance to play. He was in a tough spot here, obviously. But it wouldn’t surprise me if we end up getting him back at some point this season.
So how do we get Ellis back if he is the caliber player we want back?
You counting on Buffalo now missing that??
Re: Let's set the wayback machine ..
I will go to my grave believing you don’t trade JB when he’s still a top goalie. I remember when the Blues had a lot of really good teams but were always searching for a goalie that could perform in the playoffs. The Blues now have that.dhsux wrote: ↑07 Oct 2025 16:36 pmJB is brought up here multiple times a year for a trade.bud white wrote: ↑07 Oct 2025 14:01 pm ..To when all of the armchair GMs on this site, and all of the Blues' blog "fanboys", were writing in their online columns about how Ville Husso was the future and that Binnington was expendable and would never match the magic of 2019, etc. Meanwhile, others were pumping the brakes on his ascension to glory, pointing out some pretty obvious holes in his play that would be exposed if he were to be a number 1.

You only trade him if you have no expectation to make the playoffs and that’s not where they are.

Couple of things here:
I've always been against trading a known commodity, so the Binner trade calls were always something i hated. He definitely needed to reign in the wild side that got teams to purposely bump him and stuff, but since he's let the team handle protecting him again he's been as good as we've needed him to be.
I'll sit here and say what i've said for a while on Husso. He's a very solid 1B goalie in the NHL, and for a team that is seeking to make a postseason push, he can help you out a lot. If we needed to sign someone on a 1m-1.5M deal as a cheap backup because Hofer got knocked out for the season and we didn't trust big Z, i'd be all for it. his numbers when he finally got out of detroit and got a marginally sound team in Anaheim suddenly spiked, and i don't think that was an accident. Maybe it was a short sample size, but it'd be enough fo one for me to consider him if i were a few teams out there right now.
I don't know how good Ellis can be. What i can say is our organization has pumped out plenty of goalies that have been sound in the last 7-8 seasons either by finding them in the draft or on the open market. Lindgren found himself a home after showcasing his skills for us when he was given up on previously. Z was drafted late and despite that has gotten close to NHL caliber, we found Binner in the 3rd round, Hofer, Ellis, even Cranley was starting to show signs of significant improvement his last season. I don't know if we have the next star in house yet, but i think we have done plenty enough to give ourselves chances should Ellis not come back to us here in the next few weeks.
