Looking forward to reports today ... glad to read Stancl standing out alongside the big boys by at least one person's viewing ... Stancl is my favorite even though I coveted Carbo too. I am really curious to see if/how he is faring on faceoffs. I want him to turn into Handzus but Handzus was strong on the dot so I am holding that comparison back. How is his skating? That is his biggest hurdle. I would like him bring some more intensity to the PK. He is responsible but he needs more aggression on the PK. (keep in mind he was on a caved-in team that if you burn up yourself getting it out of the zone once ten seconds later you're back on your heels again, so I don't think this is A Thing, just something to be mindful of. He thinks the game and positions himself but whenever he adds the aggression like he brought in WJC his game just levels up exponentially)
Hey seattle, just looked up this old thread to let you know that I read a good report on Stancl. I will pass along the message from a poster on HFboards who saw the Thunderbirds exhibition game last night (oct 5).
"Stancl looked darn good yesterday playing center. He is adjusting nicely to the AHL game. I see a future as a bottom six center."
Mailloux will be as valuable as Bolduc in the coming years- possibly more so. He is a lock as a roster player and is damned good 3rd pairing guy. He is poised and plays with some bulldog energy. He will be a top four pairing sooner than ,most people would have believed.
Texier is so godamged pretty to watch and is always making pretty, deft, and smart plays -but he is allergic to getting on the scoreboard. He might be done here.
Lucic is not hurting us but he is not helping us much, either. A no-visor visage is a startling sight these days.
Kyrou plays like he still is afraid of ghosts. He looks like a less determined Matthieu Joseph so far.
Dvo ain’t slow. He is never out of position, he is just supremely calm. I do think that if he can get his reaction times up a tenth of a second he would already have had points in every game he played in the preseason. The face off work paid off big time late in the last game- he wine about five in a row cleanly,The NHL is his last and greatest test. Playing Center is second only to playing Goal in degree of difficulty. This is the start of his second season on the small ice. He will be a treasure, someday soon.
Broberg could challenge Parayko for the most goals scored by a defenseman…without either of them logging meaningful PP minutes. He is spooky fast and skilled. His wraparound was blindingly fast.
We have a very, very, good team again this year and a full year of Monty will lock them down.
Once the broadcasters figure it out, this will be a fine season to be a blues fan.

I agree with a couple of exceptions and comments:
Texier: I don't get him at all. I see a guy very adept at skating up and down his wing with little consequence. Once in a while he gets involved in a scoring chance but far too often he's losing the puck. He seems to play without notice in the defensive zone.
I've been blacked out of a couple of games but what I've seen the old freelance Kyrou is gone. Hope that's the case.
Dvorsky in my estimation is a better player defensively and in transition than he is offensively. He has really good hands and relies on them too much offensively, with the puck his feet stop moving except for normally making good quick passes on the fly in transition. He seems to not have the skill to speed rush up ice with the puck or beat players one-on-one; he's the polar opposite of Holloway and Thomas. He needs more work on his rushes and quarterbacking play in the offensive zone. I like his shot. I like his D-zone and transition play.
There was a comment in some article that Broberg is just starting to figure out how good of an athletic defenseman he really can be. I think he's going to have a monster season.

You are not a fan of style on the ice. Texier although not “Quebecois French” plays with that fear and grace that used to be one of the beautiful between the English speaking players from Canada and those Canadians who grew up in a truly different culture. With the incredible speed of the modern game, it’s not as noticeable as in the old days, but Texier is just beautiful at times. As I said, it does not show up on the scoreboard. I strongly disagree about his defensive play. He had onebad minus game, but we know how misleading that stat can be. He is almost never out of position and his anticipation and hockey IQ are very good, though a match for his grace on the ice. He was played in more than one forward position in a few games - and he played every forward positiom im this preseason.
I've been blacked out of a couple of games but what I've seen the old freelance Kyrou is gone. Hope that's the case.
He has not played freelance, he has played in a tentative and inept manner.

I think Dvo is incredibly intelligent and patient in his confidence. He knows that playing solid defense as a Center, will earn him a promotion faster than good offense and questionable defense. He is awfully young to play Center in the NHL, especially as he is still learning the ice size. His draws shown that he IS an excellent student, but one season on an NHL sized rink is not enough for anyone save, perhaps, a generational type of Center.

I don’t know what complicated his return from injury, but until it happened, he had all that and more at the beginning of last season, remember?
Apologies for the quote malfunction. My responses are following yours Dawgdad

Thank you for gathering some fan feedback. (who was the poster, lol.) Stancl probably looked darn good because he is darn good. If you take the Blues with their current trajectory, and add an aggressive Stancl who would be getting 3d/4th line minutes to start his NHL career, that is how teams overachieve. We had an influx of Barbashev and Thomas on the Cup team contributing in key ways to complement the team, and I foresee a cycle where a player like Stancl provides similar.
