Like good writing. Terse, declarative sentences narrating the action on the ice. It's a simple task. Nobody wants to hear about your [fork]ing chickens.
Re: Kerber and Vitale … are excruciating
I think it's funny. It's also the preseason. I'm going to be even more annoying because I love listening to Kerbs and Joey, to the point that I grabbed my phone with 3 minutes left in the SCF just so I could hear Kerber call the end. IMHO it's the best call in Blues history. Look I'm sorry that FDSN is garbage and is forcing y'all to listen to the radio broadcast basically with video. I'm not sorry that I'm glad they didn't change. As a radio listener I was afraid that everything I loved was going away. I'm sorry they screwed y'all. Kerbs and Joey are incredible on the radio.IsDurbanodoingtime wrote: ↑03 Oct 2025 19:45 pm Like good writing. Terse, declarative sentences narrating the action on the ice. It's a simple task. Re: Kerber and Vitale … are excruciating
The Blues for some reason decided to follow the Cardinals lead and force their fans to watch games with no audio.

Jacober gets a pass. He doesn’t even count,,,he wasn’t even a hockey PBP guy.TheHighHat wrote: ↑03 Oct 2025 19:31 pmRon Jacober enters the chat and in his best Edward G. Yep, the word "homers" were used quite often.
Also that Panger's sayings like "the ole 9 of hearts" were corny and contrived.
Yep many such threads were made of those complaints.

oh man if I had only realized that past different people had complained about the sayings of an announcer I would have realized why there's no complaint to be had here and also realize that it's just a bad faith attempt to mask the desire to complain period, finding an outlet.

Why are you trolling and being a troll? I think you have 7 contrarian accounts. Fall in line. There is no room outside of it.seattleblue wrote: ↑03 Oct 2025 22:57 pm oh man if I had only realized that past different people had complained about the sayings of an announcer I would have realized why there's no complaint to be had here and also realize that it's just a bad faith attempt to mask the desire to complain period, finding an outlet.

Most everyone posting here has heard them do a broadcast before. I'm not looking forward to this, they have already destroyed their credibility with me. The out-of-pocket cost to me (reportedly $209 for NHL Center Ice, plus $119.99 for ESPN+) has gone up and the quality of the broadcasts I'm paying for will drop significantly. This promises to be an exciting season on the ice, we fans deserve FAR better consideration and treatment and as a paying customer I have a right to speak up.noted wrote: ↑03 Oct 2025 08:25 amI like Kerber and Joey a lot. This is a pathetic downgrade.
What’s done is done but the new ones they’ve chosen deserve to get rough feedback.
Re: Kerber and Vitale … are excruciating
I think a lot of these decisions are made by people who do not really use the product- in other words they do not really watch or listen to the games as an actual fan does. They are looking for characters to fill slots and in this current atmosphere where a lot of people actually follow "influencers" this is what we get. Add in the dollars saved and I don't think they really care. The production values have fallen with every ownership change and FanDuel really only presents sports as a segue to gambling.
JK was occasionally behind the play and missed things but had such a deep background in hockey he was still better than most and not too chatty.
They replaced Dan McLaughlin with Chip Caray but they kept the goofy sidekick Brad so it is just as bad or worse.
So far I think the games with Rivers are much better than the ones with "Joey" the influencer.

Re: Kerber and Vitale … are excruciating
As succinctly as possible, when a broadcast crew does interviews or talks over the game they are DIRECTLY conveying that the product on the ice, the game action, is not important. That is a direct turnoff that often makes me outright angry, I pay to watch or listen to the GAME not people who think they are too important to do the job I'm paying them to do.hotrivets wrote: ↑04 Oct 2025 08:35 am I think a lot of these decisions are made by people who do not really use the product- in other words they do not really watch or listen to the games as an actual fan does. Yep- almost seems like they hate their customers or at least show no respect for them. Kind of like the Cardinals.DawgDad wrote: ↑04 Oct 2025 08:50 amAs succinctly as possible, when a broadcast crew does interviews or talks over the game they are DIRECTLY conveying that the product on the ice, the game action, is not important. Re: Kerber and Vitale … are excruciating
Take football. Being the penultimate stop-action sport (ok, perhaps golf, too) broadcasts rarely talk over the action of each play. In fact, there is instant replay and deeper analysis of most plays. The sanctity of the game itself is rarely trampled. Talkover seems to be much more prevalent in continuous action sports, and in baseball where pitches often do not result in game play outcomes.hotrivets wrote: ↑04 Oct 2025 09:04 amYep- almost seems like they hate their customers or at least show no respect for them. I hate to say it, but....
With the way that the Blues treated JK on the way out, we may be looking at a broadcaster curse for the rest of our lives.

If you want to hear real clear broadcasting you can watch the Kings Ducks 5-4 overtime victory with John Kelly announcing.
I don’t know how good Kerber and Vitalie are doing tonight because I have to watch ESPN plus and the Chicago broadcast is on
