Arenado's salaries for '26 amd '27 seem much more reasonable

Post by Shady »

I assume the Rockies will contribute 5 million per season. The Cardinals should be OK with paying half of the balance if they could get a nice prospect. An ideal return would be a 4 or 5 type, young, cost controlled starting pitcher. Arenado might need to be part of a deal like that.

Unless he is paying the team for what will inevitably be negative production then there's nothing reasonable about it.

It might be feasible for a team that has quite a bit of offense and needs to sure up their infield defense.

No one would give up a nice prospect for arenado no matter how much the cardinals pay

The Rockies kick in 5M next season and nothing in '27. Six million of salary next season is deferred (Cards pay). Out of pocket he gets 16M next season and 15M the year after with the Cardinals owing 12M in the future in deferred salary. Is there any team that would pay him those prices on the open market? The answer is no. More reasonable? Sure. Reasonable? No.

Good info. It's going to be interesting, indeed, to see how Bloom and the Cardinals handle the Arenado situation.

Why don't you quit assuming and start doing some research before saying dumb things? Cards added the 2027 year, Rockies owe nothing for that one. Now why don't you look and see what the real deal is for 2026.

It is the tail end of a long term contract. Of course it is underwater.

Water is wet, too.

I'm pretty sure the $15M extra year was added to offset the value of the $50M in new deferrals so that the guaranteed present value did not go down.
