Per ESPN Interview Mozeliak, We probably won't get to see JJ Wetherholt this season
I just saw this quote he had during an interview on ESPN 101:
"It's not the protection year, so I think it's not necessarily in the best interest for the organization to do that. Even though it might be fun and exciting, you're not forced to put them on the roster this offseason, and so that's definitely something that should be a part of the equation."

Mozeliak is a real Jack (donkey) during this interview.
Re: Per ESPN Interview Mozeliak, We probably won't get to see JJ Wetherholt this season
He's an arrogant snob with a very punchable face.

Mo doesn’t want to add him to the 40 man because of who again?
They’re always worthless filler on the 40 man who can be cut for someone like this

Got to hold him back to build some excitement for 2026. One of the few ways to sell tickets.
Re: Per ESPN Interview Mozeliak, We probably won't get to see JJ Wetherholt this season
I just heard the first part of the interview and missed this. First part was more personal in nature. H was actually kind of funny.
Was getting roasted for the JJ comments later in the afternoon show. I think many overreact to certain club decisions but if this is truly what they do I admit this is odd. I get not wasting a year of control but as I understand it there is an upcoming date where that won't be an issue. Only a fool doesn't think he'll need to be added to the 40 main roster next spring and adding him in the next few weeks shouldn't be an issue.
For the good of his growth and the team overall why wouldn't you want him to get a taste of the majors over the last 30 games or so. (Seems to help Winn). Only prepare him more for next year. Even if the Cards aren't in the WC hunt they'll be playing games that mean a lot to them and just adds that more to his acquired experience. Surely this is a troll job by Mo.

How does it help his growth to speed past AAA? Let him develop. We've rushed every top prospect over the past 10-15 years and all of them struggled with it.bakker wrote: ↑14 Aug 2025 06:59 am For the good of his growth and the team overall why wouldn't you want him to get a taste of the majors over the last 30 games or so. Wetherholt has also cooled off some in the last week, his past 7 games split: .192/.323/.346/.669

Re: Per ESPN Interview Mozeliak, We probably won't get to see JJ Wetherholt this season
The next 7 weeks should be used to try to build trade value for other middle infielders. That probably means no JJ this fall. There will be multiple infielders moved in the offseason. Wetherholt will play in the spring, and he will hit.
On another note, there are only 7 weeks left to the season and the Cardinals aren't going anywhere, I sure wish Mozeliak would just stop talking!

Regrettably, Super Slo Mo is right.
He has made a trainwreck of the roster and "Chaim-trying-to-fix-this-mess" Bloom will need maximum roster flexibility to add and subtract from the 40 man during the off-season.
Everyone understandably wants to see Wetherholt in STL, but I have no objection if that does not take place until opening day.

Re: Per ESPN Interview Mozeliak, We probably won't get to see JJ Wetherholt this season
My retort is this:
Why the hell is it up to Mozeliak at this point, anyway? Dude should have dipped after the 31st. Preferably before.

Yeah, that is the most realistic option.Melville wrote: ↑14 Aug 2025 08:19 am Regrettably, Super Slo Mo is right.

However, for us fans it doesn't do much for the excitement level.
In my opinion, there are very few pieces on this squad that point to a successful future.
Most of these guys we are watching are lousy.
Did you see Herrera in LF yesterday?
It's a joke.
Winn had a catchable ball hit him right in the glove and cla-plunk, it falls out.
Felt sorry for McGreevy that inning.
Just plain [shirt]ty baseball is being played.

No excuse for how STL is playing the game right now.Bully4you wrote: ↑14 Aug 2025 08:33 amYeah, that is the most realistic option.Melville wrote: ↑14 Aug 2025 08:19 am Regrettably, Super Slo Mo is right.

Folks should be far more concerned about how quickly The Marmot departs than how soon Wetherholt arrives.

Re: Per ESPN Interview Mozeliak, We probably won't get to see JJ Wetherholt this season
It’s not about roster fillers, it’s about players who do have a future here who have to be added after the season to protect them from the Rule V draft.
