If the Cards keep up this trend, there will be no firing of Marmol this fall

I am now on the fence where as prior I was sure he would be gone. I think it really matters more if the Cards take a light off season approach to the roster based solely on the looming labor discussions. If they expect any kind of lockout that will severely mess with a teams makeup and production. Not to mention no one is going to be wanting to issue big contracts if there is a chance they can be reduced after the negotiations due to a cap of some kind agreed to. Point is, maybe Bloom and Dewitt take the approach of trading for some guys to brighten up the roster, but leave deals on the table at a low rate, almost Mozeliak like in approach. Let 2026 play out knowing there could be a long layoff and very short season if any in 2027. Then re-evaluate after. Why hang a new regime and manager for that scenario? Let Marmol play out his deal and take time to survey after. He will surely be gone then if nothing else than for the cosmetic change.

If Bloom can be fooled by a few weeks of just-above .500 performance then he isn't worth his salt. He should already have it in his mind to go a different direction with field management next season.Bully4you wrote: ↑11 Aug 2025 04:43 am I don't see Marmol going anywhere if the club keeps performing.
Most likely we are stuck with him for at least another year.
While I'd like a change, at the same time I can't complain about how Marmol has performed.
He's done more with less than many could.
I'd say he's now a lock to be here in 2026.
And maybe that isn't such a bad thing.
Finally getting his sea legs.

So the cry on CT is Noot starts over JW, for one game, due to a lefty focus lineup, but playing Bumbles everyday is a problem.3dender wrote: ↑11 Aug 2025 09:26 am The only complaint I have against him lately is his insistence that Burleson is "an everyday player" when he not only has a .665 OPS against LHP, but also a .686 OPS overall in the 2nd half.
His Burly adulation is nothing new of course, it's just the last really obvious bad habit. Recalls the "I just can't quit you" scene from Brokeback Mountain.
Who is more promising or proven more so far?
Bumbles or JW?

Precisely. Sustained mediocrity is not the goal here.BrummerStealsHome wrote: ↑12 Aug 2025 09:18 amIf Bloom can be fooled by a few weeks of just-above .500 performance then he isn't worth his salt. No that’s not it. It’s that he is the hottest hitter, well rested, coming off IL. Most ride that momentum. Even in a lefty lineup there should be room for your hottest hitter.scoutyjones2 wrote: ↑12 Aug 2025 09:23 amSo the cry on CT is Noot starts over JW, for one game, due to a lefty focus lineup, but playing Bumbles everyday is a problem.3dender wrote: ↑11 Aug 2025 09:26 am The only complaint I have against him lately is his insistence that Burleson is "an everyday player" when he not only has a .665 OPS against LHP, but also a .686 OPS overall in the 2nd half.

Sure he can still be fired or even re-assigned to AA/AAA if he wants to manage in the minors where he belongs.
As proof:

Fired 10/2021
Cardinals record 2021 season
90 - 72

He's sat before when Noots came back when they played a LH hitting lineup. It happenssikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑12 Aug 2025 09:28 amNo that’s not it. The sign of a good manager isn't what games they can win there is no pressure, its what games can they win when there is pressure.
Each and every time he has lost.
Each and every time he has lost.

I think Oli will be back next year cuz that's the way this team rolls now, but don't forget that Matheny was fired in the FIRST year of a THREE year extension. And he was probably making more than Oli is now.brock118 wrote: ↑11 Aug 2025 22:07 pmIt might depend on DeWitt. Oli is signed for next year and DeWitt is so cheap that he probably won't pay for Oli and a new manager for 2026. I doubt Oli makes much as a manager, I've never seen his salary compared to other managers. This is somewhat tongue in cheek, but I wouldn't put it past him. I think we won't sign anyone of significance in the offseason and will pare the payroll down as much as possible, probably in the $120 million range.Dicktar2023 wrote: ↑11 Aug 2025 15:31 pm If Marmol stays, it speaks poorly of Bloom's autonomy and/or decision-making skills.
The top priority should be moving past the Mozeliak era and signaling to the fans that there is a new sheriff in town.
That starts with replacing Marmol. If that doesn't happen, nothing has changed. Maybe because ownership has already written off 2026 as a lost year due to the impending strike.
Or maybe because nothing has changed.

I made the same argument Monday night. The whole momentum aspect wasn't grasped.sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑12 Aug 2025 09:28 amNo that’s not it.
