Re: Will Walker ever hit?
As currently constructed, absolutely not
He has no base, he lunges, he needs a total makeover
He needs a change of scenery in another organization, it's obvious the Cardinals can't teach him the required hitting adjustments.
Time to move on.

It would have been nice if he ever mastered AAA pitching. I just don't get why they don't go to him and come to terms that he could have a long profitable career in baseball but this isn't working. You are going back to AAA to get more grounded away from the majors. We want you to be the starting RF next year. Show us you can do it.
Re: Will Walker ever hit?
He looks like a great guy. It is terrible that we do not have anyone that can teach him to hit the right way? Another wasted talent. Carlson #2
Re: Will Walker ever hit?
To be fair, he had been hitting almost .290 since the All-Star break, but since Nootbaar has returned, his playing time has suffered, and as could be expected, his confidence as suffered with it. He’s also pressing again now, his last two games, just trying to stay in the line up. The Cardinals really couldn’t have handled him much worse than they have!
Oli had him batting 9th, last night. In his mind, do you really think Jordan thinks he’s a 9th place hitter? Don’t you think he might press and try to prove he’s not? The Cardinals have a history of doing this to players, and allowing them to “ not be who they’ve always been “ but causing them to try and be something else.

The first thing the Cardinals should have done entering this (don't call it a) rebuild is replace the coaching staff. But this organization has gone overboard with loyalty and did not do so. Their hitting approach remains poor and their pitching approach ruins pitchers. Look at Fernandez. He was effective in the minors, came up throwing effectively, then for some friggin' reason decided to change his delivery and he's sucked ever since. Hello?!
Re: Will Walker ever hit?
So then the question becomes, is there not a consistent approach to these things throughout the organization? I thought they taught the same batting, pitching, fielding philosophy and approach from Rookie ball to MLB. Am I wrong about that? (Knowing me, I could be!)BrummerStealsHome wrote: ↑06 Aug 2025 10:11 am The first thing the Cardinals should have done entering this (don't call it a) rebuild is replace the coaching staff. I don't think they do anymore, at least during Marmol's tenure.WeeVikes wrote: ↑06 Aug 2025 10:36 amSo then the question becomes, is there not a consistent approach to these things throughout the organization? Re: Will Walker ever hit?
The sad part is that he hit well his rookie year.
He hit 16 HR’s and had a .276 batting average.
Ironically, that.276 was higher than both Goldy and Arenado in 2023.

Re: Will Walker ever hit?
As long as he stays vertically stacked, he will never hit at the MLB level.

Well, that seems to add up, doesn’t it?BrummerStealsHome wrote: ↑06 Aug 2025 11:17 amI don't think they do anymore, at least during Marmol's tenure.WeeVikes wrote: ↑06 Aug 2025 10:36 amSo then the question becomes, is there not a consistent approach to these things throughout the organization? Not unless Bloom cleans house and brings in a top notch coaching staff.
Not unless Walker trusts this staff and makes adjustments.

Re: Will Walker ever hit?
The odds say probably not at this point. But he’s still young and plenty of prospects are post-hype stars, so I wouldn’t give up completely yet. I would put him in AAA next season and leave him there until September call ups pretty much regardless of performance.
Re: Will Walker ever hit?
He went to azfl and did very well.
Next spring he started strong (against low level pitching) and faded.
Cards in need of a bat jumped the gun and brought him up and tried to mess with his swing and approach while he tried to learn to be an everyday mlb hitter and learn a new position.
They mind (bleep) him and set him up to fail.

If Walker can't handle the pressure of Nootbaar as competition, then he has a paper mache ego.Hoosier59 wrote: ↑06 Aug 2025 10:01 am To be fair, he had been hitting almost .290 since the All-Star break, but since Nootbaar has returned, his playing time has suffered, and as could be expected, his confidence as suffered with it. Re: Will Walker ever hit?
I see some Cardinals are hitting okay. Why didn't the Cardinal coaches mess Donovan, Winn, and Herrera up too?BrummerStealsHome wrote: ↑06 Aug 2025 10:11 am The first thing the Cardinals should have done entering this (don't call it a) rebuild is replace the coaching staff. Maybe the problem is Walker?
