IIRC Rays Cash contract is up this year. Hard to think of a better choice IMO.

Baseball Savant wrote: ↑03 Aug 2025 19:17 pmNeed I remind you Yadi basically quit on team?Banner29 wrote: ↑03 Aug 2025 14:01 pm Honestly, id like the hire. From just Cardinal fan standpoint it would be controversial hiring him over Yadi. From a sensible standpoint he’s always been a leader and a winner and has been around some great managers both as a coach and player. Always remember him being tough as nails too.
Never showed up to help out in spring training
I mean. Reading between the lines Matt Holliday basically said f*** this shortly after getting hired. Bloom all but said that the organization was quite the mess after getting hired. We may never know but Molina may just have been staying away due to the state of this team.
That said, yes, he quit. In a year when his bestie was back after a decade and going for history(700 dingers) and one last shot at a WS
Hard to trust him one way or another

One that has a boatload of gold gloves/silver sluggers/home runs/legendary status around MLB? Yeah.45s wrote: ↑03 Aug 2025 14:50 pmBad P R to fire a failing employee…..?Strummer Jones wrote: ↑03 Aug 2025 14:23 pmThat's the one thing people don't get about hiring Molina or Pujols...you REALLY want to fire a legend? Not just a Cardinal legend, but a baseball legend? I wouldn't. We have enough unforced PR errors.HorseTrader wrote: ↑03 Aug 2025 13:45 pm Interesting idea and could be what the team needs going forward. FIrst round draft pick TWICE, went on to have a very good career as a catcher. Been in the post season including two WS both of which his team won in 4 straight.
While I'd like to seem them get an experienced manager Varitek might be a better choice then Yadi or Albert. You hire Yadi or Albert then you have the concern that if they fail, you have to fire a Cardinal legend.
"In November of 2020, he was designated as game planning coordinator on manager Alex Cora’s coaching staff, and in 2021 was named player information coach.
The position of game planning coordinator largely deals with the analysis of player analytics, in conjunction with implementing strategies between the Red Sox starting pitcher and the catcher; catching coach entails game planning regarding pitching and catching. As Alex Speier of the Boston Globe wrote about Varitek: “[T]he role of game planning coordinator was a natural outgrowth of a combination of his skills, his role in recent years, and the explosion of information in the game.”"

Torre had played most of his career elsewhere. And was already a known player before coming here. And Boyer, while legendary here, wasn't a legend everywhere.bakker wrote: ↑03 Aug 2025 19:40 pmNot suggesting it isn't a consideration but they did fire Boyer and to a lesser degree Torre was legend lite. I really wonder if either is even a good choice let alone the best choice.Strummer Jones wrote: ↑03 Aug 2025 14:23 pmThat's the one thing people don't get about hiring Molina or Pujols...you REALLY want to fire a legend? Also, there was no massive business of sports punditry when either were hired. Nothing on the internet where one can become the butt of a joke on a national...even international scale...in a matter of seconds. Totally different world now.

How's that play with Yadi, Pujols, Descalso, Holliday, etc.

Bloom can't worry about how it plays with
other candidates when choosing his dancing partner.
I think this would be the best option.
Bloom loves this guy too.
I'd be 100% on board.
Re: KABOOM and Holy Sheet: Would Bloom bring in Varitek
Can we have this one nice thing: a good-fundamentals baseball guy who can lead from the dugout?

Make way for the Red Sox Way.
Out goes the Cardinal Way.
Interesting thought.

Choose who you finger point at more wisely.
I think Jason would be a hell of a pick.

Good for you. Bloom will just be continuing what Mo was doing and cards fans can watch yet another manager getting on the job trainingBully4you wrote: ↑04 Aug 2025 08:27 amI never complained about it?Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑04 Aug 2025 08:26 amWhich managers are available? lol people complained about Mo hiring rookie managers now they’re all on board with bloom hiring rookie managersBully4you wrote: ↑04 Aug 2025 08:24 amWho should be hired then?Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑04 Aug 2025 08:22 am Wow awesome bloom picking up right where mo left off hiring a rookie manager. Considering it's a long, drawn out rebuild...Does it matter?Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑04 Aug 2025 08:28 amGood for you. I guess not if you’re going to lose might as well lose with someone who’s figuring out how to manage in the majorsBully4you wrote: ↑04 Aug 2025 08:35 amConsidering it's a long, drawn out rebuild...Does it matter?Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑04 Aug 2025 08:28 amGood for you.
