Take note DeWitt
I'll trade prospects/suspects for MLB proven talent like Preller does everyday of the week.
He’s done both. His best trade ever was a MLB player for prospect that hadn’t even played a professional game. James Shields for Fernando Tatis Jr.

Sometimes the best trades are the ones that see future stars traded in rookie ball or lower. Dodgers traded Yordan Alvarez to Houston for reliever Josh Fields. Alvarez also hadn’t played a game professionally for the Dodgers yet. And the Dodgers also traded Oneil Cruz for reliever Tony Watson. Cruz was in A ball at the time. Those Alvarez/Cruz deals were back to back trade deadline deals. Imagine if the Dodgers had kept them both. 8O 8O
Don't quote me on the number but he's acquired something like 13-14 players who have made or made as Padres All Star teams. 8O

Reminds me of the deals Walt was pulling off during his tenure as GM here, fun times indeed.

And how sick does it make we Cardinals fans to know F. Tatis, Sr begged the Cardinals to sign his son and they passed. ::crazya::

You point about dealing for Low A/Rookie ball players is spot on and exactly what we just saw C. Bloom do (sans Blaze who he already drafted as a teen and knew all about).

Very smart to take a shot at those babies as opposed to taking a higher level player who may never amount to anyhting.
Yea, he’s done a nice job of turning them around. I can’t believe he’s been there for more than 10 years now. He was hired in 2014. 8O Time flies!

Yea, it would have been nice to see him in St. Louis red. I will never forget Tatis Sr.’s 2 GS in one inning game. Both off of Chan Ho Park. So glorious.

Hopefully some good times ahead with Bloom. Jesus Baez was a needed step towards that. Too often I feel like they’ve targeted players that are closer to the MLB level. Which is fine at times, but you typically don’t get the higher ceiling players when you do that. It’s a conservative approach, which I get, but there are times you need to be willing to take a little bit bigger risk.
In the same inning, off the same pitcher (C. Ho Park), insane that T. Lasorda left him in that long!

That will never, ever happen again.

Agreed

You can already see Bloom's influence, dealing for those players at lower levels gives his system time to develop them.

The deals may never amount to anything but I liked the fresh approach.

You do realize that in the entire history of the Padres organization they have drawn 3 million fans only three times. For comparison, including this season, there have only been three seasons in the last 21 that the Cardinals HAVEN'T drawn 3 million and only 4 times in the past 26 seasons. If you are going to compare the Cardinals with another MLB team at least choose one that has a history of success and fan support. The Padres have neither.

Nobody cares about history. We’re talking about now.

Clinging to days long since past is one of the biggest problems with this Dewitt ownership.

In their mind, people should flock to the ballpark with wallets wide open to pick up a bobble head of the 2006 team bat boy. Don’t pay attention to what you’re currently seeing on the field.

Pads @ Dodgers August 15 -17th. Dodgers @ Pads 22- 24th. Today only 3 games separate them.

Meanwhile the Cards are closer to catching the Rats for last than Brewers for 1st.

You think the problem is that the St. Louis Cardinals and their fans don’t care enough about history? That’s a new one. Go on, explain.

That's interesting. They also had Diamond for their tv deal. I wonder if the Chargers moving had something to do with increased attendance for the Padres.

+1...the older fans cling to the past...reminiscing about the 1950s and 1960s...newer fans see this pile of [shirt] Mo-ran has dumped on St. Louis

Preller needs another hand for all those rings he’s won. DiPoto, too!

Would you rather have those guys who are busting their humps to win one, or Mo, who’s satisfied with a ring he won 15 years ago that is no longer relevant?

That plus Peller's wheeling & dealing makes for exciting the fan base.

Yep. The whole experience just felt vibrant. Petco is older than Busch by a couple of years but feels newer and cleaner and more modern. The game experience was incredible — live music, fun memes on the scoreboard, City Connect uniforms that were designed to excite the fans, not do just enough to not alienate the old-timers. The place was full of young adults and families, not blue hairs keeping score. It felt like the 21st Century.
