Deafened at Petco last night

I have to tell you, it was an incredibly depressing experience to be in a completely filled stadium, with absolutely nuts fans, and a team that is playing as well as the Padres are.

That park was deafening last night. I actually had to cover my ears two or three times it was so loud. It brought back great memories of Cardinal teams where we felt the same way. But I’m telling you friends… That was an extraordinarily pathetic flat performance by the team last night. And I’m not sure I’ve ever seen anyone less capable at third base than Nolan Gorman was last night.

I have tickets for Sunday. I’ll be stunned if they win.

Same. It was a crazy atmosphere last night. And remember — no local TV deal for them anymore, and yet they’re still able to provide a roster worth getting excited about.

Valid question.
It was exciting-just not for the Cards fans that were there.
Those colors remind me of a bad acid trip in 1973.
For the first time in my history of catching series at opposing parks (40 years), I am skipping today's game.
I can only take so much pain, and I am expecting to be seriously hurt Sunday.

Yea but the cardinals were living on borrowed time anyway anyone who thought the rotation was going to keep pitching the way they did in June was living in a world of make believe. They weren’t ever really that good of a team. They played well above their talent levels for a while but it wasn’t ever sustainable for a full season.

I saw the Cardinals play in Petco in its second year, and the crowd was big, but rather quiet. The Cards fans at the time were louder than the Padres fans. But that's what years of perpetual losing will do. I'm happy to see the Padres get fan support. Now if they would just burn those Mexico minor league uniforms.

Just out of curiosity, what in your mind constitutes a "staid, old boring" fan base? What is the age cutoff?
And you're wrong, by the way. I spoke to several Padres fans near me who felt the same way I did about the uni's. "Happy vomit" was the way one described them, which I thought was pretty funny.
And NEWS FLASH: they were mostly in their 20's and 30's.

Think about the last time you went to Busch Stadium. You heard a guy who’s been the PA announcer for literally 40 years, an ORGAN, more 70s classic rock than you can shake a stick at, etc. If you went on a Friday night you saw the least adventurous City Connect uniforms around, because (as the president admitted), people would revolt if the BOTB weren’t on the jersey. You might have gotten a giveaway, probably a bobblehead or shirt of a player who retired decades ago. It’s a presentation geared toward old people — the kind of people whose user name refers to meeting a player who died 43 years ago.

Now contrast that to what you saw at Petco. Which presentation is more likely to attract a younger crowd? More families? Fans who will be fans for decades?

If you say so. But a more modern presentation/vibe ensures future generations stay interested. The Cardinals played like (bleep) last night but my kids had a good time because they were at least entertained.
