Brummer stealing home aside, the point that the Brewers brass do much more with fewer resources than MO is well taken. They also hire good managers....dugoutrex wrote: ↑25 Jul 2025 08:36 amBrummerStealsHome wrote: ↑24 Jul 2025 19:51 pmI'm trying to remember the year Brummer stole home . . .![]()

Yes, I always remember that WS as I was the only Cardinal fan in the city of 32,000 in eastern Wis. Born and raised in St. Louis ,my father's job transferred him to Wis. in 1962. He was promoted back to St. Louis in 1967 but I had started college in Wis. so remained there. Later met my wife, started family blah blah . So in 1982 Brewers matched up with Cardinals. Brewers led the series 3-2 after the 5th game in Milwaukee. Brewer fans could taste the WS title they had never experienced. Cards won the last 2 games and fans were ticked.
They have taken early exits quite often in other years but in 2018 they had a near miss getting to the WS. They went to Game 7 of the NLCS with the Dodgers and lost 5-1 in Milwaukee. So no WS appearance that year.
Last year , they hosted the Mets as divisonal winners to best 2 of 3 all 3 games, if needed , at Milwaukee. Split first two ,then leading 2-0 in top of the 9th one out with All Star closer Devin WIlliams on the mound , Pete ALonso hits an oppo 3 run homer. Mets end up winning 3-2 and Brewers get gut punch again.
So close but no cigar syndrome for their fanbase.
Re: The Brewers Way...
People underestimate the giant value from receiving Competitive Balance Round A draft picks year after year. The Brewers receive the equivalent of an extra 1st round draft pick every year. The Cardinals’ MLB player payroll is not big enough to make up for the lack of those extra 1st round draft picks. The Rays/Brewers model does not work without the extra draft picks, so it would not work for the Cardinals.
