Shortstop Masyn Winn admits his knee is "jacked up"

Post by OldRed »

After last night's latest embarrassing loss at the hands of the Colorado Rockies that saw Erick Fedde struggle once again, shortstop Masyn Winn disclosed that he has been fighting a knee injury since before the All-Star break. In his postgame interview with FanDuel Sports Midwest, Winn noted that his knee is "jacked up" and that it is "not okay". He also noted that they have been working on rehabbing the injured joint and even received an injection before the break.

Now what? Bring up JJ Wetherholt from AAA?

I saw the video, too.

He wants to play, then let him play. If he's okay enough to hit .381 recently, then let him play. This is a coddling country now a days.

He doesn't want to miss more games, that's a good teammate. He'll have a procedure in the offseason.

And once we trade a lot of key players, I'm sure they'll give Masyn plenty of rest.

He has been playing through it so I my guess is he will continue to play through it unless it gets worse

I think the team will ride out Fermin, Donovan or Saggesse before they consider Wetherholt. Brining up JJ has a host of problems

1. Starts working toward his ARB clock.
2. He plays enough he will be out of the running for Rookie of the year next year. May not matter to the team, but teams do like to allow players that are a future piece to compete for awards as it helps them be positive about their place.
3. If JJ were to come up at SS and play as well or better than Winn AND hit the cover off the ball it will create tension for Winn.

For a team going nowhere this season none of it makes sense.

As long as he's not making into a long term problem by playing, I agree. IF playing can do more damage so that next, he has the same problem. Then I say turn SS over Fermin for now and let Winn heal. The teams unlikely to get into the playoffs, so why risk Winn's career.

yep...I'm looking until August 1st...after the trade deadline. Then let Fermin play for half the time...then shut Masyn down Sept. 1st and bring up J.J. to split time with Fermin.

Those injections can cause more harm than good. Temporary fix to stop pain but can do damage to tendons..

I would give him a few days breather, let Fermin handle SS. Not like they are going anywhere this year.
