Cards still need a true cleanup thumper

Post by Shady »

I realize they don't grow on trees. I thought Herrera might be the answer. But both he and Contreras seem to be more suited as 5 and 6 types. The Cardinals have managed to establish a respectable #3 hitter in Burleson. And Wetherholt should be an outstanding #2 hitter behind Donovan.

Here's the way I see things shaping up for the lineup next season. There's some good potential if Mo/Bloom can acquire a stud at cleanup hitter.
1) Donovan
2) Wetherholt
3) Burleson
4) Need a true thumper than doesn't have an excessive k rate.
5) Herrera
6) Contreras
7) ? Walker, Gorman or Saggese
Eight) Winn
9) Scott

Nice self bump. The Cards already have that cleanup thumper. His name is Alec Burleson, oh ye of little faith.

So....we need to acquire a cleanup thumper that doesn’t strike out?
Of course that is true.
But seeing as how more than 20 other teams need the same thumper how do you propose we do that??

Not a 35/100 type hitter. They need a power bat

20 hitters between 15 teams with more than 20HR at all star break and the Cardinals most is 12. Last in the MLB. He’s NOT wrong.

I didn’t say he was wrong. I asked HOW we accomplish that??
LOL... the OP is the epitome of Captain Obvious.
He starts 3 or 4 threads per day most of which are repetitive and laughingly obvious in nature.

You know what? I rarely start threads but I’m thinking of one for tomorrow:

“Cards need dominant Ace who strikes out a ton of hitters”!!

Career OPS under .735 is not a respectable 3rd hitter. Low baseball IQ.

New Topic idea: “Cards need a roster that can win the World Series”.

Noot Walker Gorman Areanado Helsley and anyone not named Wetherholt should be available because they have 3-4 more serviceable bats than they can play everyday. Get that guy then build around him as the cornerstone.

Mathews
Hence
McGreevy
Libertore
Pallante

However by the time all them get to the MLb Gray will be leaving as a FA.

Definitely have decisions to make heading into 2026!
