he's in my 2nd five...ones I wouldn't be upset if we took. But he doesn't excite me, but he will probably have good career.82birds wrote: ↑09 Jul 2025 21:53 pm just for the heck of it....
what if....
Arquette falls to #5 and the Cards take him.
your thoughts?
(this is just a what if, since most experts think the Cards will take one of the college lefties or one of the HS SS)
there's a nice writeup on Arquette on that yahoo sports link I posted several posts ago.

I like him more than Doyle. And outside of Hernandez, which doesn't look like will happen, he's probably the pitcher I'd like the most.craviduce wrote: ↑09 Jul 2025 21:49 pmnothing really...last minute mocks speculating...he probably commands more of a bonus than Doyle, so the Angels probably pass on him. He can land 3rd to 10th, imo.Strummer Jones wrote: ↑09 Jul 2025 21:46 pm What's got Arnold dropping in the draft? Seemed a month ago that he might not last to us.
He's in play at 5th. Terrific body of work in college.

my main issue, and I'm not expert, so take this for what it's worth. Most of his damage this year happened midweek vs. lesser competition, or on weekends when Oregon St. faced 2nd tier schools. Not being in a conference this year really hurt that team alot. Kudos to them for their post-season run, but I feel like their run of being a Top Tier school in baseball will be over with once their HC retires, because they NEED the Big 10 schedule like Oregon, USC, UCLA get. I give them another 10 years max before they fall to Fresno State, Long Beach State, Pepperdine territory....forgotten teams from the 80's and 90's that dominated College Baseball.swatski wrote: ↑09 Jul 2025 22:06 pmDJ LeMahieu at 3b?craviduce wrote: ↑09 Jul 2025 22:01 pmhe's in my 2nd five...ones I wouldn't be upset if we took. He had a good year, not an outstanding year. That's my issue. 2024 spoiled me for College elite players LOL

let's just say, like a lot experts are saying, that it's Willits or Arnold.
who would you prefer?

it's a tough question.
I LOVE that Willits is switch hitter.
but...I won't be around 6 years from now when he would finally hit the bigs

Good question. I don't think there's a right answer. It's hard to pass up a LH starting pitcher that has a chance to make an impact very quickly on a team with very few starting pitching prospects. But you also can't go wrong stocking up on top SS prospects, but his impact will likely come later.

Obviously not who you are asking, but I am big on Willits too. Unless you have a Paul Skenes or someone highly regarded such as Cade Anderson, I"m going with impact position player. I just think pitchers are not very durable and at pick 5, I want to take a chance for longer term success. The only 2 pitchers I would take at 5 would be Cade Anderson or Hernandez, but it seems like we do not want to risk taking Hernandez. My top 4 players in no particular order are Anderson, Holiday, Hernandez, and Willits. I just think they stand above the rest.Ronnie Dobbs wrote: ↑10 Jul 2025 08:46 amGood question. In addition, while you do have to display IQ in sports, I value this more in baseball than your other high revenue sports such as basketball/football outside of Quarterback. I really like players that come from families that have baseball pedigree in their blood and honestly, even moreso with players that came from solid bloodlines, but maybe those that had to ounce everything out of their ability such as WIllits dad. It also seems to be the main one concern on Eli is lack of homerun power, but it seems like he added some weight and has more to add. The reports also seem to show that he tapped into it some more so even if he is never a 25 homer type guy, having an all-around player that could even get over 15 that is also a switch hitter helps. Throw in that he is not just a left handed hitter which is what our team/farm system is loaded on and I'm just super high on him. Maybe, I"m overly optimistic on him, but I see a Better hitting Tommy Edman in this guy. A guy that can be versatile, is a true switch hitter, and maybe have him be Brendan Donovan's bat that meets Tommy Edman's speed/defense, and I think you have a really good player.

In the SSS of the CWS looked rather pedestrian.
He should be thrilled Reno said that, means he's a all star.
