Will Hofer see an Offer Sheet?

Re: Will Hofer see an Offer Sheet?
There is a reasonable path to trouble for us IMO.
A path where he is worth enough to another team that the compensation and/or salary makes us very uncomfortable.

Re: Will Hofer see an Offer Sheet?
FWIW, Joel comes in #3 on this list of top back-up tenders :
https://thehockeywriters.com/top-10-nhl ... altenders/
It looks like the bottom of the barrel NHL regular tenders are at 4M AAV :
https://frontofficesports.com/the-25-hi ... altenders/
All of which lends me to believe that he very well likely be tendered an offer sheet, if we don't lock him up, and he might not be happy with much below that 4M price point, given that he could likely contend as starter on some other team. So the point then is, how much is a strong back-up, its insurance and stress-relief on the starter, worth ? And will he be content, in any case, to remain a back-up ?

Re: Will Hofer see an Offer Sheet?
I think Blues would consider matching up to 4.6M. While having Binnington and Hofer taking up a smaller % of the cap would be preferred, 11.1M or 11.6% of the 25-26 salary cap is a manageable number and wouldn't be the top allocation to the position around the league.
Thinking it's very possible for Hofer to get there too. Look at the contract the Redwings gave Husso after the Blues dealt him. 3 years at 4.75M after 57 career starts for the Blues. Hofer has played more games with very similar GAA and SV% numbers.

Re: Will Hofer see an Offer Sheet?
I think they get him signed. But if he isn't signed I doubt there will be an offer sheet. The Blues can match any offer sheet. I offer below 4.6 is a no brainer, they will match and the other team will have done the work for them. If they go above it then Army may well take the 1st round compensation. The Oilers put themselves in a poor position against the cap.
I have to imagine that Hofer is worth more to the Blues. You have two goalies that can play the puck. The D has to adjust when there is a goalie that doesn't play the puck well.

Re: Will Hofer see an Offer Sheet?
No the blues have to qualify him and then they will use arbitration.so_crates wrote: ↑01 Jun 2025 15:29 pm I am wondering if a team with a lot of cap space, like the Sharks at 15m to get to the floor, make an offer that is crazy enough the Blues won't match.
Let say the Sharks offer him 4.6m. That's only a 2nd coming from the Sharks but is way out of what I personally think the Blues would match.
Re: Will Hofer see an Offer Sheet?
Me personally I hold my breath when he's behind the net with the puck.
He's not terrible with the puck by any means but he's not great either, imo.

Re: Will Hofer see an Offer Sheet?
I guess we are talking about Edmonton. Because i haven't seen two many that wasn't retaliation.
So, I don't think another team would jump in. Especially without The insider information that lead to ours.
Would Edmonton have the cap for a offer sheet. And would they want to spend those assets?
I don't think so.
But if every gm don't know that Army would be willing to match up to 5 million. Not good.

What "insider information" are you referring to? I don't remember reading anything about that, but certainly could have missed it.Cahokanut wrote: ↑02 Jun 2025 08:19 am I guess we are talking about Edmonton. Because i haven't seen two many that wasn't retaliation.

Edmonton doesn’t have the cap room. Especially since they have an even bigger RFA to sign - Evan Bouchard.Cahokanut wrote: ↑02 Jun 2025 08:19 am I guess we are talking about Edmonton. Because i haven't seen two many that wasn't retaliation.

But disagree another team wouldn’t do it. There’s plenty of teams that need goaltending and I wouldn’t be surprised if some of them view Hofer as worthy of being in a platoon situation for them or even their starter. Hofer isn’t ready to be a full time starter getting 60+ starts IMO but a situation where he’s viewed as sharing the crease 50/50 with another guy or even a 60/40 split could easily be viewed as being worth $4.68M, especially in the new cap environment.
Re: Will Hofer see an Offer Sheet?
Agree. I can't see the Oilers having the space to sign Hofer. Good news is they can only go to $4,680,076 because they don't have a 1st rounder next year.STL fan in MN wrote: ↑02 Jun 2025 08:40 amEdmonton doesn’t have the cap room. It seems like the Flyers might be a good candidate. They seem to have the cap space and the picks.
BTW, I didn't realize the Flyers have so many picks for this year's draft. They have three #1's and four #2's, and one 3rd.

Re: Will Hofer see an Offer Sheet?
Yeah, the Flyers have 7 of the first 48 picks this summer and 8 of the first 57, which is just crazy. You probably know this but it would be 2026 picks used for any offer sheets this summer though. But they have pretty much all of their 2026 picks too so yeah, they could easily try to poach Hofer.somni wrote: ↑02 Jun 2025 11:19 amAgree. I can't see the Oilers having the space to sign Hofer. Re: Will Hofer see an Offer Sheet?
Yeah, my comment on this year's draft was a sidebar when I was looking at the 2026 draft to see if they could go above the $4.68M threshold.STL fan in MN wrote: ↑02 Jun 2025 11:33 amYeah, the Flyers have 7 of the first 48 picks this summer and 8 of the first 57, which is just crazy. I had no idea they had that many. I guess this year's draft will be the Flyers show.

Re: Will Hofer see an Offer Sheet?
I think If I'm Armstrong and the Flyers express an interest in Hofer I'd try and work out a trade before it got to an offer sheet. That's apparently what happened with Edmonton. He made some offers that they turned down so he forced their hand (and then offered up an extra sweetener to make sure they wouldn't match). The Flyers have a lot of good young players in their pipeline. Perhaps a guy like Spencer Gill or even Oliver Bonk could be had. 4.6M is more than what the Blues are going to want to pay Hofer but it wouldn't be impossible for them to match.STL fan in MN wrote: ↑02 Jun 2025 11:33 amYeah, the Flyers have 7 of the first 48 picks this summer and 8 of the first 57, which is just crazy. Re: Will Hofer see an Offer Sheet?
I would let them know that we will match but we are open to a trade. I believe they have Quenton Musty.... I think we could make a deal.so_crates wrote: ↑01 Jun 2025 15:29 pm I am wondering if a team with a lot of cap space, like the Sharks at 15m to get to the floor, make an offer that is crazy enough the Blues won't match.

Everyone it doesnt matter...... they can not offer sheet hofer cause he is arbitration eligible. ....
I dont understand why anyone is arguing anything. As long as he is qualified and one of the parties chose arbitration he can not be offer sheeted
