What will be the biggest roster hole in 3 years?
What will be the biggest roster hole in 3 years when we advance to the Cup finals?
I'm guessing that it will be the same hole that has existed since Pietrangelo left, the Defense.

Who knows. With all the picks they have had. We dont know. Might be ok. So many drafted players recently.a smell of green grass wrote: ↑20 May 2025 12:45 pm What will be the biggest roster hole in 3 years when we advance to the Cup finals?

24 Players drafted in last 3 years.
We are currently heavy on left wingers. May need to draft a goalie to backup Ellis and Hofer in the future. Last goalie drafted was Cranley--he stinks.(some say to be patient--i think hes awful)
All these centers may end up on wing?
Im confident that a few of these drafted dman will pan out. Nothing I have seen to this point tells me different.
Since 2022:
12 dman drafted
8 Centers
3 Right Wings
2 Left Wings
0 Goalies

Yep. Maybe. They have had some good finds, so maybe they can hit on a few more.BluesDom wrote: ↑20 May 2025 13:12 pmWho knows. With all the picks they have had. We dont know. Might be ok. Sundqvist, Toropchenko, Walker, Faulk, Krug, Fowler, Leddy, Binnington, all off the books.
Plenty of internal competition.
Maybe we see a trade with all the draft capital we have.

Broberg when he wants 100% money up front guaranteed signing bonus vs salary and leaves to sign with Vegas.
Sorry, guys, I couldn't resist. Most likely center, one or two quality top-4 D. Hopefully NOT in goal.

Re: What will be the biggest roster hole in 3 years?
Definitely something we should fret about now since we are all able to predict the future.

Aren't you one of the fans saying that the Blues are ready to compete for the Cup right now?
How would you know that with some degree of certainty if you are not looking at the holes that need to be filled on the roster?
Are you telling us that you are just skating by the seat of your pants?

Likely Top 4 RHD. We already need someone better than Faulk right now to go with Parayko. As Parayko gets older that will only get more true. Theoretically Jiricek could be the guy, but we will probably want another one to step up soon even with him. Broberg and Lindstein can be penciled in as our future LHDs, and we have several more in the prospect pool that might also make it. The RHD future is very suspect at the moment.
That said… that’s a pretty common problem, and it’s plausible we end up with someone playing the other side. RHD is a tough spot to fill league-wide.

Jiricek has the pedigree to buy a top 4 defender on a team. Broberg has that. And by all accounts Lindstein is the most impressive prospect we have according to some scouts and some team entities coming out of camp environments. Broberg would have to be locked up by then on a big long term contract. But if we can assume or hope Tucker is manning our bottom pair, you would havebluetunehead wrote: ↑20 May 2025 14:43 pm Likely Top 4 RHD. Broberg/Parayko
Lindstein/xxxx
Fowler/Jiricek. Tucker is here as well
My guess is by this point because of the way our cap is being handled, Tucker or the Fowler spot wouldn't exist like that, and it would be a 7th man and a BIG money contract from the outside. I'd assume that in 2 years we are spending 8m on some established player. If that's the case, Our defense has potential. Will be interesting, but when you write it all out, the defense doesn't look like it's in bad shape. It's the next couple years where you will have to find Fowlers replacement and Paraykos because he will have 2 years left but should be at that point starting to move down the lineup. If Parayko is a 2nd pair guy for us in his 36 and 37 year old season, that won't be too bad.

This would be my answer. RD is a bit thin at the moment and then gets really thin whenever age catches up to Parayko.bluetunehead wrote: ↑20 May 2025 14:43 pm Likely Top 4 RHD. And while yes, RHD is a league-wide shortage, the only 2 in the pipeline we have are Jiricek and McIsaac.

Tom Willander (VAN). I know he just signed with them, but he and Lindstein made up one of the best pairings in the tourney not long ago.callitwhatyouwant wrote: ↑20 May 2025 14:55 pmJiricek has the pedigree to buy a top 4 defender on a team. I’d also look at Brendan Schneider (NYR)

It doesn't how much time passes, the biggest hole is that green funk that crawled out from under.a smell of green grass wrote: ↑20 May 2025 12:45 pm What will be the biggest roster hole in 3 years when we advance to the Cup finals?

They will be a cup contender in 25/26. No need to wait three years.MikoTython wrote: ↑20 May 2025 15:15 pm Oh, I'm looking forward to three years from now. Blues in solid contention, and....
