I’m surprised you didn’t include Corbin burnes that’s who most people wanted. I remember a couple wanting Montgomery I don’t remember any want hicks and a few strange people wanting Flaherty back but most wanted an ace like pitcher like burnes strange you didn’t include him
I think the OP was just about guys who used to be Cardinals

He never specified former cardinals he said a lot of people wanted these players and asked if he’s leaving anyone out and said build SP from within. So I think he was just coming up players who some wanted who sucked to prove his point about building SP from within

I would have gladly re-signed Jack on his contract for last year or the one he signed this offseason. I don't miss Hicks on that contract, nor Monty.
I didn’t see Jack as above forward when the team had to rebuild or refresh.
But two years and $35M coming off a good year wasn’t a bad signing even if he has struggled so far in Detroit.

His struggles look mostly HR/FB% related which takes a while to stabilize. His xFIP is 3.35 or something like that. That's not enough to change my mind on that contract yet.

Good point but…
Who would he have bumped from the rotation? They needed Libby to find himself. Heck, I’m looking for McGreevy to come up (after dumping 1-2 starters).

Jordan Hicks 11 mil a year for a 6.75 ERA...almost can't afford not to
And he pitched 6 shutout innings in his first start of the season in his 1 win. Ever since then he’s been brutal. He’s given up 7+ hits in 5 of his 9 starts.
Yeah, I actually went back through his game logs and saw that. Tough to succeed as an MLB starter with a 1.5 pitch arsenal assortment

Depends how far you go back. If they signed him last year you probably don't trade Edman for Fedde, probably don't sign one if Lynn or Gibson. Or maybe they trade Jack last year at the deadline.
The decision to part with all three was not made this past offseason. But this much later Jack is the only one I wish we had re-signed.

A lot of folks wanted to sign one or more of these guys. Not exactly lighting it up...
2 Ws, 10Ls between them and Monty only threw one inning before IL.
Am I leaving out anyone?
Build SP from within.
Hicks and Flaherty came from within. Why will future pitchers from our system be better?

Any ex cardinals doing well? Can’t remember them all. Zach and Sandy aren’t exactly tearing it up
Shelby Miller putting up good numbers in a relief role. 3-0, 1.45 era.
Nice. Think Carson Kelly is having a pretty good year himself. Wacha has an era under 3. Tommy Edman is killing it.
Tommy Edman is hitting .252 and is on the IL. but maybe that qualifies as "killing it."
I knew he was hurt. Just thought the 24 rbis were impressive
No matter how some here want to downplay Edman's success—yes, those RBIs are impressive, as is his versatility.
I was fine with the trade at the time (the only test in my mind), and I wish him success.
