Pete Rose

Post by Basil Shabazz »

Absolutely pathetic they waited for Pete Rose to pass away before giving him his day in the sun. Reprehensible.

Pete Rose pleaded for Hall of Fame consideration in a letter to MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred two years before Rose passed away. In the letter, Rose apologized for his gambling activities and requested another chance to be considered for the Hall of Fame. Rose had tried to be reinstated multiple times, including in 2020 and 2022, when he wrote the letter to Manfred. In his letter, Rose expressed regret for disappointing fans and acknowledged his role in damaging baseball's integrity. Rose also requested Manfred's forgiveness and a chance to be considered for the Hall of Fame. The letter was from a man who loved the game, played the game the right way, embodied the game, and by a man who made a mistake. We are all flawed(yes, even you ecleme).

If I were Rose's family or in charge of Rose's estate, I'd be very ticked off for Pete. There are plenty of known "cheaters" either still playing MLB, still associated with MLB, or actually in the HOF. To be so obstinate not to allow Pete as an 80 year old man to be enshrined with his eyes open is sickening. The to try and create a media storm off of his name by allowing him back into MLB posthumously is even more sickening. Screw you Manfred!

Agree. This is all taken way too seriously…..it’s a game…..Hall filled with men with less than redeemable qualities. It’s a freaking museum. Tell the history of Pete…warts and all

I would argue betting on baseball and assuming you were above the rules, and then lying about it for years and years is reprehensible.....

Gambling was always the big 'no no'.

I have no issue with them waiting until after he passed.

I feel worse for Shoeless Joe - not just the banning during his life time from HOF but his career being cut short.

It is pathetic that he has a chance to get in. All of those who say let him in. Tell the story warts and all. Warts? He gambled on games he was involved in. The number one sacred rule no gambling. And trying to rationalize this by stating “well baseball is involved with gambling” isn’t relevant. You can’t gamble on games. That’s the rule. The only saving grace out of this fiasco is maybe great players like Bonds and ARod will get their dues. Unless we only worry about people that effected outcomes of games on something other than talent.

I agree. I figured they would do this. Wait until he is gone.

Folks are dug in on their positions regardless on this one.

I had zero sympathy for Rose. He did nothing to help his cause in the aftermath and continued to me a complete (bleep).
