Barrero for VSII This Evening
I know it is a a tough lefty, but I really like the roll VSII is on right now. I also know that VSII has to have a day off sometime.
Watch Barrero show up tonight. Who knows.

Barrero looks like a star. Went to that game last week when he hit a double and HR, made that sliding play up the middle at short with strong throw, looks like he can run and in his prime at 27. Teaming it up at Memphis, I want to see more Barrero.

He's an extremely useful player. Especially on this roster but in any case really. SS/CF versatility, RH pop and speed.Ike Hammett wrote: ↑12 May 2025 14:05 pm Barrero looks like a star. Barrero is very useful. It'd be great to have a good backup CF behind the potential rising star path VS2 looks to be on.
And yeah, like mentioned, the ability to play both CF and SS. This guy needs some runway.

Does Barrero have upside? Unfamiliar with him.
Re: Barrero for VSII This Evening
He’s got the talent. Baseball America had him as the 33rd best prospect prior to 2022 when he was with the Reds. He has flashed his abilities at times in the minors (.303 with a .919 OPS and 19 HRs in 2021 between AA and AAA. He had an .873 OPS in AAA for the Reds in 2023 and then a .913 OPS with Memphis this year before we called him up.
He never hit in the MLB when given a chance with the Reds though. He had a .497 OPS over 447 PAs in the MLB for Cincinnati. Seems to this point, he’s all tools and inconsistent. Never know though.

I would prefer Scott. This is the season they are supposed to be seeing what they have in the young players see if scott is a guy who can play every day including against tough left handers. But I get starting Barero also so it doesnt really matter I would just rather see Scott in there. They just had a day off before the washington series and will have another day off after this series its not like he needs the day off

I also really like having Barrero on the bench for his defensive flexibility and potential in his bat. I'll take Barrero over Siani any day of the week.

Barerro definitely being showcased to other teams as a multi-tool player - Anyone else think the Cards hope someone will envision a future Oneil Cruz and pick him up to play the outfield?

If he’s a future O’Neil Cruz, the Cardinals should hold onto him. We have an issue in right field that will need to be addressed pretty soon and Barrero might be an answer to the “how do you solve the right field” question.Idaho Cards wrote: ↑12 May 2025 15:23 pm Barerro definitely being showcased to other teams as a multi-tool player - Anyone else think the Cards hope someone will envision a future Oneil Cruz and pick him up to play the outfield?
Re: Barrero for VSII This Evening
Excellent point. Hope Bartero can get a bit more disciplined and strike out less, but he looks like he may have more talent he can tap than Walker does.EastCoastDave wrote: ↑12 May 2025 15:35 pmIf he’s a future O’Neil Cruz, the Cardinals should hold onto him. Re: Barrero for VSII This Evening
Good point!!! However; I think the Cardinals are hesitant to speak of the "R" word. (rebuilding). IMO the Cards did not deal certain players at the end of last season because they wanted trade pieces for this year's deadline, not to create a better 2025 team, but to act on the desperation of teams in the 2025 race. If Barerro does pan out as an OFer, I believe they see him as a trade piece for young pitching.EastCoastDave wrote: ↑12 May 2025 15:35 pmIf he’s a future O’Neil Cruz, the Cardinals should hold onto him. He definitely looks like a guy who should be a star.Basil Shabazz wrote: ↑12 May 2025 15:04 pmI agree with this.

But, yea, I agree. I like the flexibility on defense and potential in the bat. I know he's never hit in the past, but when you look like a star and you were a former top prospect, it's hard for me to let that go. But for a guy who is 26th man off the bench and who can play basically anywhere except catcher (on a team with three of them), I like him.

Just FYI, 5 years ago, Barrero was the Reds version of Jordan Walker, except he was an international signing as opposed to a top draft pick.Ronnie Dobbs wrote: ↑12 May 2025 15:51 pmHe definitely looks like a guy who should be a star.Basil Shabazz wrote: ↑12 May 2025 15:04 pmI agree with this.

So, apparently, someone thinks the ceiling is there...
Re: Barrero for VSII This Evening
He was more like the Reds version of Nolan Gorman. Walker was a top 5 prospect. Gorman got as high as 33 by MLB and 34 by Baseball America. Barrero got as high as 33 by Baseball America (they were the only publication to have him as a top 100 prospect though).blackinkbiz wrote: ↑12 May 2025 16:08 pmJust FYI, 5 years ago, Barrero was the Reds version of Jordan Walker, except he was an international signing as opposed to a top draft pick.Ronnie Dobbs wrote: ↑12 May 2025 15:51 pmHe definitely looks like a guy who should be a star.Basil Shabazz wrote: ↑12 May 2025 15:04 pmI agree with this.
