NHL Praying…

Post by BobbyBlue »

For a Leaf/Oiler final…this way they get a Canadian winner no matter what and either a McJesus poster as the face of the NHL or an Ontario explosion with Chief ending the long Leaf Cup drought. A Carolina/Dallas final would be a nightmare of a sell for them btw the (2) countries.

I think ideally they'd like one from each country. Toronto - Dallas.

Lots of eyeballs rooting for or against the Leafs.

The NHL, headquartered in NYC, and who makes way more money in the States, would want this why? It’d likely kill viewership here in the US.

Respectfully disagree. If the Leafs make it to the Final it would be must see TV across North America. Canes v Stars would be a snoozer...

Why do people in US care about the Loafs? Hate watching maybe, but that would be about it

Canes? Yes. Nobody cares about the Canes or Carolina. But Dallas would be a decent draw…at least in terms of NHL viewership…which is pretty tiny when compared to the other to sports leagues unfortunately.

Agree. Pietrangelo, Saad and Vegas cant go away fast enough.
Dallas may be unstoppable in the West. I though Mikko Rantanen was just a guy--Turns out hes a bonafider super star. (with or without Mackinnon.) 6'4" 215 lbs. Dallas is loaded.
Toronto is playing the right way under Berube.

Their fan base for starters, the media would be slobbering all over them like they were the best team ever. No thanks

I think I heard yesterday that TV views are down for the playoffs this year, likely due to all the Canadian teams in the playoffs. I'm sure those numbers were American tv's tuning in, and in Canada TV viewership should be the opposite, way up.
I haven't watched anything since game 7, but will jump back in before this round ends.

Playoff numbers for all sports lately have been down. Part of it is because of all the different channels everything is on. It shouldn't be a chore to try to figure out what channel a game is being played on, then include streaming services, well good luck.

You are likely correct though, Canadian TV numbers are likely through the roof. I mean they have watch parties for game 1 of round 1.

Jack, you hit the nail on the head talking about the difficulty of finding the channel each game is on.

And to make matters worse, I was on the phone for 40 minutes with a DirecTV Stream rep because my ESPN app had me go through my provider, DirecTV which had messed up my password somehow. I would have really been torqued if it was during the Vegas-Oilers game. At least it was Caps-Canes, which I have less interest in.

Technology is great. Except when it isn’t. Seems like the latter is becoming more and more common!

How do you know this?

Why do you ostensibly think the final is the preeminent concern of NHL marketing?
