Red Sox designated hitter Rafael Devers spoke to members of the media today, including Alex Speier of The Boston Globe. Devers said that chief baseball officer Craig Breslow recently asked him about playing first base in the wake of the Triston Casas injury. Devers said that he is unwilling to take up the position, adding that the club told him to put away his glove when they moved him from third base to designated hitter this winter. He feels that the team has now gone back on its word. He also responded “Sí, claro” when asked if he was upset by the request.

He whined when they moved him off theirs base and pouted even though hes one of the worst third basemen in the majors now whining about first base. Hes Definitely not a team player and they’re paying him 313 million lol if they asked him to sell hot dogs in the stands he should be saying do you want mustard With that?

Management bad mouthed his defense and worked really hard to get ride of him. If they, indeed, told him to put his glove away, they handled it wrong. He's got a bad attitude, but front office people need to do a better job at demoting players they may need in the future.

Stan enlisted in the Navy and was sent to Bainbridge Naval Training Center.(Massachusetts). While there he played on the Bainbridge Baseball team along with some other major leaguers. After being there for 3 months, he was sent to Pearl Harbor under the instruction to join a Ship Repair Unit. (They would ferry people from damaged ships back to land. While he was serving his country there, he also played baseball in his free time. Stan said they would have 10,000 people at the games to get their mind off the wartime.
Stan's father fell ill in fall of 1945 . They gave Stan a leave from the Navy . After his father recovered, the Navy returned Stan to Bainbridge,Mass. where he remained til March 1946 when he was released. Returned to the Cardinals for that 1946 season.

I have no problem with his “attitude”. He is their franchise player, and they moved him off of 3B because of Bregman. Now that Casas is injured again, they want to move him to 1B.

Maybe he should be handling it differently…. but when they reached that long term agreement, it wasn’t just the Red Sox making a commitment… Devers committed to them also, so maybe he shouldn’t be getting kicked around.

Airing his grievances to the media is a bad look, but we have no idea how things with the Red Sox are being handled internally.

Those comments are what a valuable employee might say in private internal meetings, not what one would say into a public microphone. Can you imagine a parent buying their kid a #11 Red Sox jersey after hearing that interview? I winced several times while reading that article. Horrible PR!
