Can Holloway Play Center?
If Holloway can play 2C, would solve a lot of Blues issues. Realize he is probably the most effective winger on team when health, but he is fast and smart enough that seems who could be answer at 2C

Re: Can Holloway Play Center?
I think the way you view your Center is always a facilitator. Thomas leans that way heavily. Schenn is that, both sunny and faksa are bottom line versions of that.
But when you see the star centers like mcdavid mack crosby etc they still naturally facilitate first, and then know how to finish at an elite level. Holloway is maybe that guy, but to me he's a game breaker currently. Maybe he can develop that center mentality, but I don't think that's what the team wants he himself to do today.
Re: Can Holloway Play Center?
I would agree with your first statement. I don't really see Schenn as a facilitator though. Holloway played center a bit for Edm. He's better at wing and this is probably just another trying Buch at center type situation, but feel like DH could do it. Probably just wishful thinking.callitwhatyouwant wrote: ↑07 May 2025 14:43 pmI think the way you view your Center is always a facilitator. Thomas leans that way heavily. David Backes
Right Wing -- shoots R
Born May 1 1984 -- Minneapolis, MN
[41 yrs. ago]
Height 6.03 -- Weight 215 [191 cm/98 kg]
David was a right wing converted into a center. I would def give it a try move schenn to wing

He has such a good shot. I think he can become an elite winger. He is a point a game winger under Monty (even with Schenn as his center). I'd rather they find a center.

After the way Parayko ran deep into the zone in the playoffs. He is our man!

Re: Can Holloway Play Center?
I think he can play C but he’s been such an excellent winger Id be hesitant to move him. But my understanding is that he mostly played C for Bakersfield in the AHL. It might be a worthwhile experiment in camp but I don’t think they can simply assume he can do it and plan their summer around that. IMO, they need to still try to find a viable 2C this summer and assume Holloway will stick at C. But then wouldn’t be opposed to trying Hollway at C in camp a bit to see how he does. Maybe he exceeds at it, maybe it’s a bust and they move him back to wing. No harm no foul. Or maybe he’s ok at it and becomes a secondary option at C when there’s injuries.

I think he probably could play c for sure fill in like they were asking of buch. That being said with him going to be coming off some type of hip surgery not sure we really want him to at leat at the start.

Re: Can Holloway Play Center?
Sure he can. And in multiple scenarios! The best part about him is that he can be slotted in there in the event of an in-game injury, or major penalty. The guy is very versatile and just so darn good. You keep using him on the wing, and power-play the way they did this year and even on the penalty kill if necessary... and enjoy having the talent available to be a Centerman just in case.
Re: Can Holloway Play Center?
Honestly i think bolduc is a better more skilled backes.
Lets move bolduc to center. I bet he would excell there

Re: Can Holloway Play Center?
More skilled, yes. I still have not seen Bolduc battle in the corner the way Backes used to or ever drop the gloves which Backes did when necessary.

Re: Can Holloway Play Center?
I wouldn't say Holloway can't play center but I don't see him as a center. He has exceptional straight-line speed perfect for a winger. Just have to be careful, like Buchnevich it might be turning an asset on wing into an ineffective center.
Re: Can Holloway Play Center?
I've asked this question multiple times myself and it's not gotten much attention but to one of your points I just don't see Holloway failing at much of anything.STL fan in MN wrote: ↑07 May 2025 16:46 pm I think he can play C but he’s been such an excellent winger Id be hesitant to move him. Give him a shot and save the prospects from a trade for center.
