Pallante will be fine.
Good morning.
He’s a ground ball pitcher who must limit base runners by way of a walk. It’s critical.
He as thrown 26 plus innings last five starts, with a trend downwards. 7,6,4.1, 6, 3.1. He is 2-2, with a 1.53 whip. There is his issue- walks.
Last 13 innings 9 walks. 4 er twice and 3 another time last three games. Walks.
Let’s not forget the terrible umps he has encountered. Icon said yesterday was the worst we have ever seen, so it is not helping a young pitcher.
Another thought- he has pitched at Phillies at reds and at Braves in succession. Also has two starts against Mets, one a 7 inning start against Mets in these five games.
So Mets x 2, reds there, Braves there, Phillie there, and Mets at home. He was 1-2 in that span.
He is a strong number five, and a good number four. He will throw a gem every third game. This on a reset year.
He will be fine.

You may be right, but on this team right now you can't leave half a game for this bullpen to finish and get good results. Most of the time that is going to look ugly. A leaky bullpen overshadows all strengths on the team.

It’s important to remember this reset. It’s a season long event. Therefore it’s a must these players play and get pushed around by attrition, injury, bad nights, and growth.Talkin' Baseball wrote: ↑06 May 2025 10:21 am You may be right, but on this team right now you can't leave half a game for this bullpen to finish and get good results. We gotta see what we got in offseason in order to start the buying.
I’d measure him more on a start against Pirates than Mets. He bombs with Rats, then there is an issue.

If you're giving a leash to a few position players during this reset, why wouldn't you do the same for a young potential decent cost controlled SP?

Another point. It’s not a secure environment if in only 2-3 events you went from -could be stud to could be dude, and got removed from your position.JDW wrote: ↑06 May 2025 13:22 pmI agree.sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑06 May 2025 10:26 amIt’s important to remember this reset. Re: Pallante will be fine.
he is also not an answer for the pen --- he doesn't have an out pitch he can rely on. He has 3 better than avg to ok pitches and an idea of how to pitch - the last few starts the groundballs have found holes. He is the type of pitcher who when on a roll can throw 90 pitches in 8 innings. If you want to give up on him because of MM or GG -- i can sort of see that but don't put him in the pen.sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑06 May 2025 13:32 pmAnother point. He was good last year and earned his rotation spot to start the season.
Let him pitch.
2025 is pretty much an audition season.
And I disagree with those who don’t think he could help out of the BP.
After Helsley from the RH side you have Leahy & Maton.
Then who?
Fernandez? Roycroft? Munoz? Svanson? O’Brien?
I’d rather have Pallante than any of them.
And I get that we want to see McGreevy and Graceffo. But maybe they are better suited starting in AAA until they are ready and not put in the BP?

Re: Pallante will be fine.
Without strikeout stuff his chances of long term success as a starter are slim.
Hitters know he's going to be down in the zone and are sitting on those pitches.

Let’s hope they hit it right at someone, or off the end of the bat.11WSChamps wrote: ↑06 May 2025 18:13 pm Without strikeout stuff his chances of long term success as a starter are slim.

As for Pallente, he needs to throw strikes with the sinker and mix-in occasional four seamer above zone.
His breaking ball he bounces it repeatedly, shelve it until he figures it out
Dude needs a changeup
He has good enough stuff to get hitters out, 95 with movement

Or Hence who might not have the body/frame to start.
Has the arm to close?
