It looks like Ethan Holiday makes it back to 1/1 after all. Does Carlson have any legit shot at actually pitching in the bigs or is he strictly a position player?
Re: 2025 MLB Draft Room ~ Thread, Mocks, Discussion, Draft Boards
it'll be a Masyn Winn situation...everyone "oooo's"and "ahhh's" over the 95-100mph arm, but the bat and defense are the bread winners in that householdTraveledLessRoad wrote: ↑06 May 2025 09:54 am It looks like Ethan Holiday makes it back to 1/1 after all. Got it. Thanks again!
Re: 2025 MLB Draft Room ~ Thread, Mocks, Discussion, Draft Boards
I’m sorry… but we are not going to be a dominant team again until we hit on a pitching prospects that can stay healthy. I think I would go pitching with every (bleep) pick. We DO NOT need another SS

Re: 2025 MLB Draft Room ~ Thread, Mocks, Discussion, Draft Boards
I'd argue we need a slugger.
Re: 2025 MLB Draft Room ~ Thread, Mocks, Discussion, Draft Boards
the Pirates have a good pitching staff, with more on the way in the minors. They can't hit worth a lick as an organization.
the Reds have a terrific future starting corp, with more on the way. They can't hit worth a lick as an organization.
------
I want that next generation ACE, too. I think he's going to be Seth Hernandez or Kade Anderson/Kyson Witherspoon. But if we can't hit worth a lick, the best pitchers will wilt away, and/or leave via Free Agency. Note ~ I know Jamie Arnold won't be available at 5, so I don't target hiim
I think we need to be managed/ran better as an organization.
And I'll stick with my strategy with this wonky draft.... Best Player Available. I can't pass on Arquette if Hernandez and Arnold are already taken.
Re: 2025 MLB Draft Room ~ Thread, Mocks, Discussion, Draft Boards
we need a whole lot of everything. Better philosophy is probably the main thing.
we can't make this draft produce Sluggers who can hit....not at #5. This is a weak college hitting class up top...compared last year and 2023. There's no potential ACE college pitchers, outside of Arnold, but he comps better at #3 in the rotation. No Burns, Smith, Skenes this year.
It's a draft dominated by ? hitting/smooth fielding HS SS.....projection.
Pray an Arnold or Arquette fall to us if you want a fast riser
if you can be patient, then you can get a slugger in the 2nd or 3rd round....if Flores will abandon his recent tradition of drafting injured players b/c it's fun to do

Re: 2025 MLB Draft Room ~ Thread, Mocks, Discussion, Draft Boards
The fact that a kid played SS does not mean that would be his pro position. Usually in HS and often in college ball, the BEST player (most highly talented ) plays SS , a premium position.
Ex. Mookie Betts was a SS . He excelled at other positions in the MLB. So you would not pass up a talent like that just because he played SS on his HS or college team.
If Holliday goes in the first few picks along with a few pitchers , there is a very likely chance that the BEST player available may well be a SS
Jace LaVioltte is an OF and possibly could be available but SS names Arquette, Carlson, Houston are all in the mix for possible slotting where the Cardinals select at No. 5 . Three of the top 4 position players may very well be SS guys.

Crazy that Mookie Betts was drafted in the 5th round. I know it happens (See: Goldschmidt, Paul), but that tells you everything thing you need to know about projectability and the crapshoot that is the draft, I guess
Re: 2025 MLB Draft Room ~ Thread, Mocks, Discussion, Draft Boards
here's the 2021 draft, how it unfolded. I compare it to this year. It was dominated all year by 2 college pitchers from Vanderbilt and 10 or so Highschool SS, none of whom has amounted to anything in the majors....yetTraveledLessRoad wrote: ↑06 May 2025 13:20 pm Crazy that Mookie Betts was drafted in the 5th round. your only possible success stories from 2021 have been Jackson Jobe (HS RHP....drafted top 5, so Hernandez could be success story??

I pray we don't do something overly stupid like KC did in that draft....just to save some money. Mozicato has been hard stuck in Quad Cities (High A, Royals) for 3 seasons now.craviduce wrote: ↑06 May 2025 13:26 pmhere's the 2021 draft, how it unfolded. I compare it to this year. Very interesting. Andrew Painter certainly looks like he may be the real deal. But who knows.craviduce wrote: ↑06 May 2025 13:26 pmhere's the 2021 draft, how it unfolded. I compare it to this year.
