Why no timeout after goal #2

Post by TampaBlues78 »

So I am trying to figure out why monty didn’t call a d@mn timeout to calm the boys down and give the right people rest

That would have been smart. The only thing I can figure is that there was a long break with 3:14 left and maybe he figured they were good? Could have at least told them what to do in various scenarios I guess.

That's a really good question.

there was a lot of stoppage at the end there. I think the 2nd goal because it was all just bad bounces lends you to think "the system wasn't wrong". If they were off their marks its a different story. If we just got cycled on and there were not stops maybe a timeout.

I agree. I thought the same. I suspect everyone just wanted the clock to run out asap and get out of there.

I think there's a severe overfocus of shooting at the empty net. My approach would be is when a makeable shot is there take it but foremost you are playing hockey, burning clock, gaining zones and making an entry or getting a clear shot when you have the puck. Icing burns very little clock compared to just about any other hockey play. It relieves pressure when the team needs a reset, but that's it.

If you give your best defenders extra time to rest, you are also giving their best offensive players an extra blow. Maybe they wanted to avoid that, I can't say for sure.

All I want to know is what caused the "mixup" that led to Faulk being on the ice for the tying goal when it was supposed to be Parayko and Broberg, as was reported post game by game announcer Ferario.

Did Faulk mistakenly jump believing it was his turn in the rotation? That's typically the way these mistakes occur. Just never heard of one happening at the most crucial time.

I don’t buy it…. There 100% with out a fact should’ve called a timeout, that team was in panic mode from the 2 minute mark on… yes it was a fluke goal but a time out should’ve been called… I love monty but that was bad time mgmt

It's a fair question to ask for sure, I asked it on texts with friends last night real time.

Also, the 6/5 performance was never fixed by Monty, by far the biggest gripe I had with him and that gripe sure as sheet ain't going away.

I've been kinda numb all day.

Montgomery just said he regrets not calling the timeout after the 1st late goal. At end of season presser.

Came here to say this. The question was if he had any regrets and this was the one thing he said. Made the correct comment that he’s not able to call a time out after an icing but said he had one opportunity to take a timeout and didn’t. Said they went over the plan during the 2nd intermission but said he should’ve called a timeout and gone over the plan again.
