My wife and I have watched NHL playoff games for several years and she insists that pulling a goalie for a 6th attacker is just stoooopid. I tend to agree for many reasons, figuring for every last-minute goal you hand the opponent an ENG probably 50 times...and even when you don't get scored on you must play half-rink hockey, desperate to keep the puck from anywhere near center-ice when, had you kept your man in goal and gone with 5 forwards going allin on offense, who knows if you'd have tied the game?
With the league in recent years quantifying stats by minutes and seconds of ice time, does anyone know any credible stats on this?
Are there any stats tracking the wisdom of pulling the goalie for 6th man?

The stats say pulling the goalie increases your odds of scoring almost 3x…but increases the odds the opposition scores way more.
But generally, it’s worth it because you really only do it when you’re down 1-2 late in the game. If you’re down 1 you might as well pull the goalie and triple your odds of scoring. If it doesn’t work, you either lose by 1 if the other team doesn’t score or lose by 2 if they do score. Either way, it’s the same result - a loss.

Does the OP understand why teams pull the goalie late in games now?
