Herrera should be the primary DH and the backup catcher. His bat is better than Gorman or whoever else Oli wants to put in there.
He is probably one of the top 3 or 4 hitters on the team and he should get as many AB's as possible. And he's just getting started.

Man if Herrera can get back to form, watch out offense could be solid again.

Hoosier59 wrote: 29 Apr 2025 08:27 am Even though Gorman is only hitting .208, he has been producing runs. He’s scored 8 times and driven in 8 in only 40 some at bats. Look up the stats, there are several guys with twice as many at bats with less numbers. Gorman needs to play more. Hopefully he can get hot with more consistent playing time, and gain some confidence back.
Also his underlying numbers aren’t bad.

Barrel% still strong at 15%
Hard hit% still strong at 42%
K% down a bit from years past at 30%, but it has climbed in recent days (9 K’s in his last 24 PAs).
Walk% good at 10.7%, close to 2023 levels when he had an .805 OPS
His outside the zone swing% is 23% which would be a career low
Contact% 72.9% would be a career best
zone contact% is 87% which would be a career best
His first pitch strike% is 57% which would be a career low
Big issue is his fly ball % is up (60%) while his HR/FB% is way down (5%, his career norm is 18%).
His average EV is also down at 86.9
Too soon for those giving up on Gorman.

LHHers w/raw power are gold in MLB and there's little doubt Gorman possess raw power.

J. Walker, on the other hand, could be nearing "bust level" if he doesn't figure something out soon.

In no way disparaging Futuregm2 or Rocs opinion, facts, etc. More along the line of stats & their meaning.

But "Contact% 72.9% would be a career best ...zone contact% is 87% which would be a career best." 80% contact % or higher is considered very good. As Roc, and other posters, have stated LH infielder with power is a rare commodity - do disagreement.

Using the BR formula (AB - SO/AB) Gorman's contact % is 65%. MLB uses "dividing the number of pitches where a hitter makes contact on pitches inside the strike zone by the hitter's total number of swings on pitches within the strike zone". Not sure the value of such a formula as there is considerable activity on the strike zone border and outside and to disregard is disingenuous. I would go so far as to say Gorman and others (Walker, Burleson, etc) are notorious for chasing pitches outside the strike zone.

Just logically to a fan (or maybe not) - if a player is SO at 35.4%. Their contact rate cannot be that high. Further reading did provide the stat rationale that even if player has good or avg or ??? contact % does not mean they are getting hits, even a good slug %, etc.

Am not a fan of Gorman nor see the value as presented by Futuregm2, Roc, or others. We just differ on Gorman as player. So take the players name out of the discussion and see if, for you as fan, if the stats depict the player and their on field performance value.
