Re: MU BB rotation next who ya got?
According to MSN, below are the top shooting guards still available
Could Gates snag one of these?
Is he willing to spend one million?
It's a tough decision.
Of course, will any of these guys take a $700,000 offer?
RJ Luis (Saint John's)
Ian Martinez (Utah State)
Malik Thomas (San Francisco)
Taye Fields (North Alabama)
Christian Davis (Bradley)
Pierre Brooks (Butler)
Rylan Griffen (Kansas)
Blaise Threatt (Weber State)
Femi Odukale (Minnesota)
Jordan Longino (Villanova)

Re: MU BB rotation next who ya got?
Super early to know the rotation with so many question marks. We do know Ant and Mitchell will be critical.
Beyond that it’s up for grabs. IMO Pierce, especially if he takes yet another step forward like he did from freshman to sophomore year, will be key. Crews will also be key, but I don’t always love his shot selection.
We’ll be really deep and good at guard. TO should get a lot more PT, I love his game at the point. He needs to develop his shot. Mack will step in and help immediately. Don’t sleep on Rowe. He’s small so not 100% sure how he’ll do at this level. But he’s an elite ball handler and passer, super quick, and he can shoot it. Not saying he’s AI, but he’s that kind of player. Can he guard? No idea yet.
Under the basket will be interesting. We have length covered, but not much bulk. Don’t sleep on Northweather either. He’s big, skilled and can shoot in transition. That’s good in this system. He wasn’t used properly at OU in a team of selfish players. I remember watching an OU game and the play by play guys talked about pro scouts watching OU practice and they always seemed to focus on Northweather. You can always use a skilled big who can shoot from 25 feet.

I still say Gates pretty much has to be confident and not hope that Robinson and Pierce have matured to the point where they are two of scoring replacements people are talking about.
After all with two years under their belt and with their ability shouldn't they be?
If player development is indeed part of the plan and not just nil and TP moves then those two players should be expected to carry part of the load along with Mitchell.
That doesn't mean MU couldn't use more scoring help of course but it would seem logical some of that help is already here.

Re: MU BB rotation next who ya got?
did watch a few minutes of the games OU transfer played and did well in which was against az and tx. In those games he looked solid, rebounded and shot the ball well. Here's where you have to trust Gates ability to spot talent like he did with several transfers and develop the big man to be able to be in front line rotation. after AZ game surprised he didn't get more minutes as they needed size and his skills but didn't get any meaningful pt. hopefully will be another Tamar Bates situtaion. huge problem is their Best assistant and only big man coach left to run another program. needs to be replaced as rest of staff are putz's who seem to simply take up space. Along with CY's recruiting another stud recruiter needs to be added as well. Burns development of course is another huge key. IF he adds bulk and is effective on both ends of court or at least a rim protector and rebounder would be big.11WSChamps wrote: ↑25 Apr 2025 08:23 am I still say Gates pretty much has to be confident and not hope that Robinson and Pierce have matured to the point where they are two of scoring replacements people are talking about.

Ant has the tools to be a real scorer, he just focused more on defense and didn't take many shots which he has a good arsenal of. TO didn't need to score when he came into the little pt he had but handled the ball well and is excellent defensively. with the scoring guards gone and more PT he should add some scoring. Rowe was a 5 star stud until he wasn't and is a very good PG distributor and can shoot. is smaller and needs to develop strength and toughness.
Pierce is a real wild card. Had a very nice stroke and can drive well but didn't do either near enough and needs bulk and being much better at position and rebounding but he could really be a major factor.
Need to keep MM down on the block much more rather than out on perimeter where he has a horrid 3 pt shot and form. He is a load down close to basket but in last games team game planned to keep him away from rim and very effectively.
I am a optimist at heart but trying to get over being butt hurt by the traditional Tigers disaster in March. WANT Gates to succeed as he is obviously a good man.
Re: MU BB rotation next who ya got?
Agree with Woofy's roster - possible that Burns kicks Pierce to sixth man.

most of us really like who Gates is but he looks like another Cuonzo who is more interested in turning out nice kids rather than running a competitive SEC contention worthy program. Bad news is apparently the bottom feeders in SEC went out spent money and got some real studs and will force Tigers to bottom third of conference.
Sorry for the doom and gloom but it's my opinion. Many of us were on a MU BB high until the last few games of season then yet another awful terrible performance in the big dance losing to yet another Nothing team when you had much better talent because your coaching staff sucked and did NOT have them ready to play. of course same team got bounced by the next team EASILY because that staff had their guys prepared and ready to run them off the court. completely destroyed Gates cred and his staff was revealed to be totally NOT power 5 worthy.
But it has been underwhelming.

A link with no comment about an article which cited Missouri zero times. With all the talk about portal gets and next years team I thought it might be of interest to some about what others outside Mizzou Talk think of Mizzou's chances next year. One poster here even said it shouldn't be difficult to finish in the top 4 of the SEC. The writer of the article sees 10 teams from the SEC in the top 25, nothing about MIzzou. Nothing says he's right, just thought it might worth noting that not everyone sees Mizzou through black and gold glasses. Discuss or don't.woofy25 wrote: ↑26 Apr 2025 18:39 pmA link with no comment about an article which cited Missouri zero times. We can see that on this forum. About 9 out of every 10 posts here are from people who only want to attack Mizzou.just thought it might worth noting that not everyone sees Mizzou through black and gold glasses.

While there are some on here who attack Mizzou, 9 out of 10 who only want to attack Mizzou is just not true. That’s probably more like 1 or 2 out of 10.winonsports wrote: ↑27 Apr 2025 11:47 amWe can see that on this forum. What is true is 9 times out of 10 your posts are attacking actual Mizzou fans for no good reason.

No one is attacking except you, as usual. Let me repeat, someone other than a Mizzou guy giving his opinion, not attacking. Agree or don't, just up for discussion.winonsports wrote: ↑27 Apr 2025 11:47 amWe can see that on this forum. Re: MU BB rotation next who ya got?
Well, he puts Kentucky highest in the SEC, because of their portal additions, while in touting the teams ahead of them he praises roster retention. Then he puts Auburn next even though he says they lost their entire core, except for Pettiford. He says Pettiford is poised to be a superstar, and maybe that's so. Then he mentions one transfer. Two possible impact players on the roster?Lightning Rod wrote: ↑27 Apr 2025 11:26 amWith all the talk about portal gets and next years team I thought it might be of interest to some about what others outside Mizzou Talk think of Mizzou's chances next year. Next is Florida, all the way down to 16. He mentions one of their players that still may go to the NBA, and Haugh, who was good but not a big impact player last year, and a Princeton transfer point guard who didn't really make a big splash in the portal. So from one to three impact players?
Next is Tennessee, who lost just about everybody, and he mentions an incoming 5 star freshman and one transfer--two possible impact players, neither proven?
Arkansas comes next, and they really do return some key pieces and Calipari got some potentially good transfers. That was a good pick, and quite possibly Arkie should be rated higher than he puts them.
Then Vandy, apparently because he likes their coach; he even says they have no real impact players on the roster.
And finally Alabama in the top 25, mentioning three transfers (because they lost pretty much everybody, they had to load up on transfers).
Doesn't this seem a little like several of these teams being touted because of their past reputation? Florida, Tennessee, Auburn, and Alabama all lost almost everybody that contributed last year, and are banking on their incoming transfers to be better than they were at their previous schools. Same with Kentucky. Who knows why he puts Vandy that high. Arkansas is the one pick that really has both returning production and good potential transfers.
So where does that put Mizzou? Two very important contributors to last year's team return, Robinson and Mitchell. Pierce was a fairly important piece. Crews contributed. Mizzou, with just those four players, returns more production than any SEC team other than Arkansas. They basically replaced Gray with Phillips, and Perkins with Mack. At this point, they did not exactly replace the only two other key pieces from last year, Bates and Grill. Instead, assuming they don't make a splash with a late portal addition, they are depending upon some combination of Barrett, Burns, Boateng, and maybe Porter to take some steps forward. Maybe this guy doesn't consider them because apparently Mizzou is universally considered to be irrelevant until they prove themselves relevant.
