Burly WISHES he had a .650 OPS.
Actually, it's all the way down to .601. Beyond pathetic.

And Contreras' OPS is an even lower .478. Isn't that even worse than "Beyond pathetic" then? LOLMonsieur De Treville wrote: ↑21 Apr 2025 14:18 pmBurly WISHES he had a .650 OPS.

Yes it is. But this thread is about Burleson. The comment I was responding to was about Burleson.Shady wrote: ↑21 Apr 2025 14:22 pmAnd Contreras' OPS is an even lower .478.Monsieur De Treville wrote: ↑21 Apr 2025 14:18 pmBurly WISHES he had a .650 OPS.

Is that the same multi time all star with a career .800+ OPS?Shady wrote: ↑21 Apr 2025 14:22 pmAnd Contreras' OPS is an even lower .478. Isn't that even worse than "Beyond pathetic" then? LOLMonsieur De Treville wrote: ↑21 Apr 2025 14:18 pmBurly WISHES he had a .650 OPS.

Are you Kreskin? LOLMonsieur De Treville wrote: ↑21 Apr 2025 14:08 pmNot at this time, no. Is that even in doubt?Shady wrote: ↑21 Apr 2025 12:05 pmIs it true that Contreras is NOT the best hitter on the Cardinals team?Monsieur De Treville wrote: ↑21 Apr 2025 10:50 amSo there's a chance your Red Sox scout-buddy was wrong about Burly? Are you saying Burly may not be a doubles machine? Is it possible he's not Joey Votto or Tony Gwynn? Could it be that he's not as athletic as Tommy Edman?
The good news is he can't get much worse. He's bound to improve at some point. But seriously...even with a bump in improvement, he has serious power limitations, speed limitations, and defensive limitations. At his very, very best he's good for 20 doubles & 20 HR during the season. Unfortunately, it appears pitchers figured him out last summer and he's incapable of making adjustments.
A modern day Joe Hague.
However, he was their best hitter last season and we have over 5 months left of baseball to see who will be the Cards best hitter in 2025. It might be Contreras again. It most certainly won't be Burleson.
I repeat. "You've often dragged your Contreras laurels, while slamming Burleson, into my other OPs regarding Burleson"."What is wrong with you? Why can't you stay focused? Adult ADHD or Dementia?" Back at you. I would prefer you not insist on personal attacks.Monsieur De Treville wrote: ↑21 Apr 2025 14:27 pmYes it is. But this thread is about Burleson. If you wish to start a thread about Wily's slow start, please do. But try to pay attention and stay on track, Marshall.
Fair points.sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑21 Apr 2025 12:56 pmBurleson as they say here can only single, and play first and occasionally Of. Baker can man first as well but may hit a Homerun. That’s my difference.Cusecards wrote: ↑21 Apr 2025 12:50 pmConcerning the 25th and 26th man?sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑21 Apr 2025 11:35 amOk. An emergency role in LF could be covered by several others before I’d do Burleson. But to your point, yes he would suffice in that role.Cusecards wrote: ↑21 Apr 2025 11:31 amEmergency rolesikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑21 Apr 2025 11:25 amYou only get by in OF in short stint based on the hope the little white ball don’t find him. Not enough reward for even that risk.Cusecards wrote: ↑21 Apr 2025 11:20 am I think Burleson probably gets more grief than he deserves.
2024- After a strong/encouraging first half he has basically plateaued/cratered.
He appears to be a platoon LH bat.
Plays a respectable 1B and you can “get by” with him playing corner OF in short stints.
Translation? Role player.
NOT a regular #5 hitter.
But again that one time event ain’t enough for the return. The return being a roster spot not named number 26.
I’d keep Burleson ahead of Baker. Possibly Siani although he is their best defensive OF.

It took tremendous courage to post this. After a brief sojurn in AAA he will return to the Cardinals and win both the MVP and Comeback Player of the Year. Mark my words. He will also win the World Series with a walk off ninth inning HR or a sliding game clinching catch. He is that talented.Shady wrote: ↑21 Apr 2025 18:58 pm I'm swallowing some pride saying this. But with Saggese's recent success. And with Burleson not currently hitting well. When Winn gets activated. It wouldn't be the end of the world if Burleson goes down to Memphis to try to get his chit together as a quality hitter, again. And Saggese stay up with the Cardinals, for now.
