Mizzou is 10-1 the last two years in one-score games.

That doesn't happen without caring about special teams

He was near the bottom of the conference.
Last season, Bauer punted 49 times for 2,047 yards (41.8 average), ranking sixth in the SEC in punts and eighth in punting average and punting yards.

He had 16 punts inside the 20, only five touchbacks and was the holder for place kicks for a promising freshman.
His average yards per punt was near the bottom of the conference and should be easy to replace.

Spring competition probably bore that out.
You are just determined to attack this player no matter what the stats state
No I'm not.

What stats are you looking at. Here's what I found.

The Detroit News, 247 and On3 all reported he was eighth in the SEC.
He was 8th in yards but 14th in average.
Likely 1st in length too (6’5”).

Yards per punt is a useless stat. If you're punting for a team that's always stuck in their own end of the field, your objective is likely much different than the punter whose team is consistently over midfield.

Nobody has ever thought that.

Funny, I consider total yards pretty useless considering it doesn’t take into account how many times one punted in a given season. Which coincidentally is why most people quote yards per punt and punts inside the 20 vs. touchbacks first and foremost when evaluating punters.

What pro teams look for out of a punter is hang time. A 40 yard punt that has a hang time of say 4.6 sec is a much, much better punt than a 43 yard punt with a hang time of say 4.2 sec.

Also relevant to ranking punters is the time it takes between catching the snap to the ball leaving his foot. The shorter the time the less chance of a punt being blocked.

But because punt yardage is the most easily measured metric, that's what is most often publicized.
