The guy is still only 22 year old. Do any of you have any patience? I'm sure glad none of you are the GM. First you complain about giving away talent that becomes stars in other places and now you want to complain about a 22 year old. Good Grief.

This won't be popular but I'm starting to wonder if Walker (2 Hr's/ 1 double/ .239 .299 .338 .637) will ever be more than a "meh" hitter.

I see no power, no extra base hits and too make KO's.

If the young guys, including Walker, don't get it done, the Cards goose is cooked. You have to play them, including Gorman. That is what happens when you are sporting a lost cause. You find out who can play by giving them a good look and regular playing time. I believe they will settle down and get it done, but they can't continue to jerk them in and out of the lineup. Some will not make it, and at least you know you gave them a chance to succeed.

Yep, that was my comp for him before he debuted. I was hoping to see more of early Braves Heyward though rather than Cubs version of Heyward.

He does have power. Unfortunately, his swing hits the ball into the ground... that's a result of keeping the same swing composition since he was teenager, but his body outgrew him and his swing. It's incredibly difficult to change. Depends on the person I guess. But I can't bemoan him. He's made the slight alterations over the winter to try and fix the problem. He's hitting the ball, that's a plus. Maybe the loft will come later?

His Exit Velocities are incredible. So, Again...the power isn't a problem

I wish he would shorten up the swing like Judge or swing a bit more up like Stanton...but that's easier said than done.

I think Walker needs to be shown video of Dave Winfield to model himself after. Winfield was also 6'6" and 220 pounds. He is in the HOF, over 3,000 hits and just shy of 500 homers. Walker isn't as upright as he was last season, but they are going to pound the ball at his knees with sink, and he will have to use a golf swing to hit those balls in the air. Winfield wasn't erect. I don't know if he dropped down when swinging but I think Walker could learn more from seeing how Winfield approached hitting. I think Winfield also had six or seven Gold Gloves. Drafted by MLB, NFL and NBA I believe.

His left foot is not stepping away from the plate on his swing as much as last year, but he is still pulling off the pitch low and away. If he can consistently lay off those pitches or hit them to RF, his results should be much better.

Too early to give up on the young man, but it is frustrating to see him fooled on the same pitches time after time. His defense has improved greatly, so I think he is receptive to the advice and instruction of the coaches. Hopefully Brown can keep working with him and change some of his bad habits.

I agree with your analysis. I have been watching his ABs also and am seeing the same things. I understand that Brown worked with after the game a few days ago. I still saw a problem when a right field approach is required.

Clemente ish based on potential. Clemente had 240 Hrs, 400 plus doubles, and 166? Triples. He could run the bases well.

But he had 26 Hr once, 23 twice, and all other years between basically 15-19. But he got hits, bunch of hits. Walker could become that player- 18-20 hr, 35 doubles, 5 triples- 150 hits per year.

Clemente was 5'11". He was not a pull hitter, and considering it was 360' down the LF line and 406' in the power alley at Forbes Field, he would have struggled to hit homers there. Clemente would rip line drives all over the park, especially to RF, but it was not shallow there except right down the line. Walker has very little in common with Clemente.

JW is 22 years old with plenty of potential and a smart kid. He is representative of the growing pains any team goes through in developing young talent at the MLB level. I will say that his stance is slightly more open than it was in the beginning of the season.

He's in the 45th percentile in the MLB for exit velocities so far this year. Fairly solid for a 22 year old player, but far from "incredible".
