Hellebuyck or Binnington

Re: Hellebuyck or Binnington
What I like most about Binnington that goes unnoticed is his ability to handle the puck and take pressure off of the opposing team’s forecheck. It’s almost like having (3) defenseman below the goal line retrieving the puck and moving it out of the zone. Color commentators noticed it in the Stanley Cup Final and in the 4 Nations tournament. It’s a BIG factor in his play that enhances his big game reputation and goes unnoticed by those that do not see him everyday…and I’ll take that in playoff hockey…when defusing an opponent’s forechecking abilities is key.

Binnington over Hellybuck until proven otherwise.

Exactly what I was thinking. Until Hellebuyck takes the Jets on a deep run, I'll take Binnington every time for the playoffs.Old_Goat wrote: ↑18 Apr 2025 07:07 amGood assessment.John Cocktoastin wrote: ↑17 Apr 2025 20:39 pm Who would I rather have in net?
Hellebuyck in the regular season.
Binnington in the playoffs. No doubt.

True. When you see it game after game you understand the impact of his ability to handle the puck.BobbyBlue wrote: ↑18 Apr 2025 08:08 am What I like most about Binnington that goes unnoticed is his ability to handle the puck and take pressure off of the opposing team’s forecheck. This.
To quote the Nature Boy, "To be the man, you gotta beat the man."
I ride with Binner as long as he wears the note. No other goalie comes close in Blues history (to a Cup, or to elevating his game under pressure).

Re: Hellebuyck or Binnington
This is where I might get some shade. I'd rather have Helly. But you are splitting hairs here. I'd rather have Binner than every goalie not named Helly and Vasi. I'd take Binner over Oettinger. I like our chances with Binner in net. Vastly different strengths than the others.
So with that being said, Binner go stick it to all the other teams. Nothing better than seeing other fan bases collapse because of this guy.

Binny/Hofer is a much better tandem than Hellebuyck/Comrie.
Re: Hellebuyck or Binnington
Stat Fact Of The Day ...
Conner Hellebuyck is 2-8 in his last ten playoff games with a GAA of 4.20

Re: Hellebuyck or Binnington
Binnington is also better rested than Hellebyuck. And I really like the fact that Hofer played a lot against the Jets this year.
They may have wore the tread off of Helles tires.

Hellebuyck and its not even close.
Don't get me wrong, I love Binner. But I find the narrative interesting. Everyone talks about how clutch Binny is but seem to forget that the two years following the cup run he went 0-9 and was terrible.

Recall that his D corps was trashed. And when Hellebyucks D had to get rebuilt, he wasn't very good either.WeWentBlues0819 wrote: ↑18 Apr 2025 15:51 pm Hellebuyck and its not even close.
