Colorado Rockies Belong in AAA
When will MLB push for new ownership in Denver?
They have one of baseball's most beautiful stadiums, in a great part of town (LoDo) but no reason to go to it. At least that makes it easy for us to book a weekend there with lots of good seats available.
Their sad-sack manager Bud Black is well-started toward his seventh consecutive losing season. His last three full seasons had losses of 94, 103, and 101.
The Rockies just this past weekend got swept in San Diego with 3 shutouts, amassing only nine hits...total.
They did virtually nothing in the offseason to improve, and one of their few bright spots, Charlie Blackmon, retired, taking his The Outfield walkup song "...I just want to use your love...TONIIIIIIGHT!!" with him.
In Chicago, with four All-Star Games and three top-11 MVP finishes (including one win), Kris Bryant appeared headed toward Cooperstown. Now at 33 he is a Rocky Mountain Sigh, with $27M still due him annually through 2028, making him untradeable with his past three seasons of .233, .218, and now .154, with brittle health and negligible power....despite playing half his games at Coors Field.

So far, more than 400 views for "Cubs 16, Dodgers 0...", and more than 50 about an hour after the Rockies post. I guess someone likes them.

Speaking of bad teams, the White Sox are 4-11, a paltry .267 winning percentage. THAT'S STILL BETTER THAN THEIR 2024 ENTIRE SEASON!
41-121 .253
The Sox had a winning record against the Cardinals last year at 2-1. They had a winning record against three other teams, two NL and one AL. Can you guess them?

If relegation/promotion existed in baseball (and it can't, so don't bother with that), the Rockies and the White Sox would have been relegated after last season, and replaced by Omaha and Sugarland (Houston). In that bizarro world I expect Sugarland (Houston) would go into the NL West and Omaha into the AL Central

Don’t they have a system in Europe reference their soccer leagues.BrummerStealsHome wrote: ↑14 Apr 2025 13:45 pm If relegation/promotion existed in baseball (and it can't, so don't bother with that), the Rockies and the White Sox would have been relegated after last season, and replaced by Omaha and Sugarland (Houston). I know it won't happen (i've thought about this too) but there should be some kind of penalty for owners who don't even try instead of constantly rewarding them with the best draft picks.BrummerStealsHome wrote: ↑14 Apr 2025 13:45 pm If relegation/promotion existed in baseball (and it can't, so don't bother with that), the Rockies and the White Sox would have been relegated after last season, and replaced by Omaha and Sugarland (Houston). Maybe they should increase the signing bonus to the #1 overall so high than a team like the Pirates or Rockies wouldn't even want to pay it, and then allow draft pick trades, but only for other picks / playings in the same year. None of this signing away your first round pick for the next decade like the NBA allows.

Re: Colorado Rockies Belong in AAA
These days, the White Sox, Rockies and Marlins appear to exist only as a hammer for managers to threaten underperforming or recalcitrant players with being traded there.
Re: Colorado Rockies Belong in AAA
I completely support relegation. That would encourage some payroll investment. However, MLB has the complicating factor of the minor leagues being farm teams for the majors. If Memphis was relegated up, the Cards wouldn't want to give up their entire team.BrummerStealsHome wrote: ↑14 Apr 2025 13:45 pm If relegation/promotion existed in baseball (and it can't, so don't bother with that), the Rockies and the White Sox would have been relegated after last season, and replaced by Omaha and Sugarland (Houston). Those hysterical screams you heard last night coming out of Colorado were for the Rockies finally scoring after 32 shutout innings, pulling hundreds of Rockies fans in off the ledge. They lost 5-3 to L.A., but it would have been much worse had Shohei Ohtani, after homering once, not been denied two more by catches right up against the wall, with OF'ers colliding both times.
