I would prefer a manager with extensive major league experience…
If the club begins to win….the butts will follow..

I don’t know that I would go that far. I think it’s a team with younger players offensively that were needing the right coaching help. They finally got a competent hitting coach and the changes have been massive. Now they need a competent pitching coach and manager to go with that.

"Co-managers"?? That kind of circus is all that the team needs.

Back in the 60s…..the Cubs tried what they called The College of Coaches…RamFan08NY wrote: ↑09 Apr 2025 11:18 am "Co-managers"?? That kind of circus is all that the team needs.
An eight person group to manage the team…..with rotating “head coaches”
It was less than successful

No to co-managers. I think there would be an initial excitement among Cardinal fans if one of them were to become manager, so there could be a boost in attendance. However, it will be short-lived if they start losing. The only way to fill the stadium is to win.TheFantasyStud wrote: ↑08 Apr 2025 18:16 pm Can Cardinals pioneer Pujols and Molina as Co/Managers?
Would the fans come back?

How about instead of hiring a manager who puts butts in the seats, we develop and acquire players that put butts in the seats?

He's not the only problem but he's a big one. A real manager like Tony could force Mo and BDW to make trades for the talent he needs. Its called managing up.Chubbs0910 wrote: ↑09 Apr 2025 09:51 am Thered be a bump but I think most know Marmol isn't the root problem.

After 3 straight rookie managers, I think most of us have figured out that they don't WANT that kind of manager (Larussa, Francona, etc.) anymore. They don't want to have demands made of them, so we end up with a poor roster and a manager with an ipad.Carp4Cy wrote: ↑09 Apr 2025 13:05 pmHe's not the only problem but he's a big one. Neither Pujols or Molina will manage the Cardinals unless there is a huge organizational shift in philosophy, which the hiring of Bloom does not suggest. Baseball managers today do not (with very few exceptions) have the same autonomy they had even 10 years ago. They are facilitators and implementers of strategies that are develop collaboratively with the FO, medical staff, coaching staff and the Geek Squad. A manager today has A say, but not THE say in roster construction, lineups, substitutions and in-game strategy. The two jobs of the manager is to implement those collaborative strategies and to face the media whether they work or fail. I simply don’t see either Pujols or Molina operating under such constraints. Winter ball and the WBC are very different animals than MLB today. They prepare managers for 1995 and not 2025.
Re: Would Pujols as a manager put butts in the seat?
i love the people that keep floating pujols and molina as cards manager. it's a terrible idea for many reasons, but the two main ones are this organization needs new philosophies and voices from the outside in the worst way, and does anyone realize how difficult it would be to have one of the two most popular former players come in and potentially FAIL? that would be awkward, to say the least.
Re: Would Pujols as a manager put butts in the sea
A relevant question for those supporting Pujols and /or Molina..
If these two guys were not former players, would they be their first choice for manager?

They aren't hiring a new manager (yet). They are paying one manager this year. In the meantime, they have series' to drop, a trade deadline to botch, and attendance records to set. The organization will get an enema after the season. Think of it as a front office cleanse.TheFantasyStud wrote: ↑09 Apr 2025 11:07 am I think Pujols would out perform Marmol as a manager and we’d win more. What my original question was intended to draw out was that it might show fans that ownership is listening and a chance of Marmol go Pujols would show a change in the current status quo and fans would begin to buy tickets to support Pujols and his 26 players. I for one think it would accelerate the reset. I’d rather have it sooner than later.

Re: Would Pujols as a manager put butts in the seat?
The “leadership” & “judgement” displayed by Marmol, Warner, etc over the last 4 years is obviously substandard at best.
A chimp could probably be trained to perform equally to Warner.
Oli clearly does not have what it takes to Manage.
I thought they stuck with Matheny too long but at least I respected him as a player and a person.
Not only is Oli severely lacking in judgement but he is a complete a-hole as a person!
