I'm one of the last remaining fans of SNL. I try to watch when it's new. Last night was mainly awful. He mentioned during his monologue it's been 20 years since he hosted. Here's to another 20. I suppose his schtick was sort of funny 20 years ago, it's boring now.
He was in one funny skit. The dating game parody skit was clever. That's it. The rest of the show was worse than usual. Update was funny as it always is IMO. The music was fine. But my goodness there were some brutally awful skits. And I guess props to the team of bodybuilders that had to hold him up when they had him flying in the skit right after update.
They did manage two very obvious shots at Morgan Wallen from the week before. Kind of knew that was coming. That whole thing still perplexes me, both sides. What did SNL expect from the invite? And what did an N word ranting country act expect from that cast.

I thought Jack Black was funny for about a two-year period back, in what, the early 2000s? When he was still doing Tenacious D and the associated movie, decent stuff. I’ve had enough for a longtime now, it’s him basically playing himself in everything, and a little bit of that goes a long, long way.
I normally watch the DVR version of SNL and I will check this one out. This morning, I saw a clip of some bass jam skit. It seemed like they were trying to catch the fire from the cowbell skit way back in the day. Not even close though.

Exactly -- only N word ranting black acts should be invited.George Zipp wrote: ↑06 Apr 2025 08:04 am I'm one of the last remaining fans of SNL. I try to watch when it's new. Lorne seems intrigued by "edgy" artists. HIs continued fascination with Shane Gillis is weird (it clearly has nothing at all to do with Gillis' talent).George Zipp wrote: ↑06 Apr 2025 08:04 am I'm one of the last remaining fans of SNL. Wallen incident is odd. Seems like there is something behind that nobody is talking about.

Shane Gillis might be the most obnoxious 'comic' I've ever been subjected to. A sure-fire cackling grinning goof. He hit on something w/ his Trump impression, which is pretty good. But on his own steam, its a cringe-fest.

Your snark reminded me that they showed on old clip on update last night of host Russell Brand introducing musical guest Chris BrownHeavy Early wrote: ↑06 Apr 2025 16:33 pmExactly -- only N word ranting black acts should be invited.George Zipp wrote: ↑06 Apr 2025 08:04 am I'm one of the last remaining fans of SNL. Also made me go back and look to see who meets your criteria. I don’t know hip hop well enough to know who might be clean and who isn’t. Seems like once a season or so. No history of anyone pouting their way off stage like ole Morgan did.
And one day I’ll try to learn the difference between tube talk and reel time.

Like DJ Davis noted, a little bit of Jack Black goes a long, long way. They tried to make him a leading man with "School of Rock" and "Shallow Hal", but that petered out. At least he's been eating well. Really well.
I will never understand His Lorne-ness's obsession with certain kinds of (ahem) "humorists" and why he thinks racist rooftop folding chair thrower Morgan Wallen deserves even more free publicity. Every time Wallen does something stupid --- like walking off the SNL stage and texting "Get me back to god's country" --- he just sells more songs to trailer park denizens. Then again, nobody ever went broke by catering to Americans' collective stupidity.

Does "collective stupidity" include people who hang on every word JC Corcoran utters?
